Honda Goldwing update

Honda GL 1800 Goldwing (2021)
More sound, technology and comfort for the Goldwing

More comfort, more storage space, more digital technology without adding weight. This is how the 2021 update of the Goldwing could be summarized in the Base and Tour versions.

With small but effective movements, Honda has made the Goldwing fit for 2021. Biggest litter? More storage space. Which was sorely needed – not. Anyone who innocently put a key in the topcase of the tour would need a cave search team to find the piece again. Nevertheless, Honda has given the Goldwing a small update in terms of luggage storage space: a whopping 11 liters more fit into the Tour’s new top case, which makes a total of 121 liters of storage space. That fits something.

Mechanically everything stays the same

It stays with the 1833 cubic boxer with six fists, 126 hp at 5,500 tours and 170 Nm at 4500 tours and the known four driving modes. The manual transmission, which is still available, has six gears, the optional DCT has been allowed since then big update for seven gear pairings plus a real reverse gear and is now also available for the basic wing without a topcase. At the switch, the maneuvering aid takes over the starter-alternator combination, which is helpful with weights of 364 kilograms for the Goldwing with DCT up to 383 kilograms for a tour with DCT. The DCT ontop can provide a motor-assisted maneuvering aid forwards. A radar-based distance system seems despite Patent application not to be in the series yet.

More comfort for driver and passenger

One could never complain about a lack of comfort. But why not make the already first-class sofas even better, thought Honda, and gave the upholstery new covers made of synthetic and real leather. The tour’s backrest was tilted a little further. For statisticians: from 16 to 23 degrees.

More sound for everyone

When it comes to entertainment, a hand has been made lightly: New boxes are supposed to provide a finer, more powerful sound and the obligatory USB slots have been updated to the latest USB-C standard. Another new feature is that the front passenger can now conveniently control the volume of the music and the music source with the remote control integrated in the armrest.

New color only for the normal Goldwing

Honda’s Goldwing Tour will be available in three colors in 2021. In gunmetal black and matt black drive train for the manual switches. The DCT drivers can still clean a lot of chrome on the drive and choose between the gunmetal black or the noble candy argent red. Regardless of the gearbox, the Goldwing without tour is only available in Pearl Deep Mud Gray with orange accents and a black motor. An explicit airbag option is not yet mentioned, but is likely to follow soon, as is the prices. And the confirmation that the Goldwing is now homologated according to Euro 5 is still pending

Conclusion

Sensible fine-tuning of the Goldwing, which has just been completely renovated. A little more comfort and technology can never hurt these vehicles anyway, and the fact that the versions have not become heavier cannot be overestimated.
