Custom bikes can be so easy

A small enduro bike with what it takes to make a great custom bike is buried under the plastic cover of a Honda NX 650 Dominator. Earth Motorcycles are raising this treasure.

  • Slovenian minimalism
  • Tank unknown, protective plate for lamp
  • Spectrum successful
  • Conclusion

Freed from plastic and viewed in profile, the main frame builds a Honda NX 650 Dominator like a trapeze. If you weren’t careful about geometry: A trapezoid is a rectangle with a pair of parallel sides. With the Honda it fits. Maybe it fits more like a parallelogram. But it doesn’t matter. The important thing is: With its slim main frame in a compact design, all sorts of beautiful things can be done.

Slovenian minimalism

Earth Motorcycles from Slovenia get to the bottom of these simple shapes. The Dominator from 1991 is completely removed except for the chassis, engine and main frame. The blissful 650 single is overhauled, blasted and freshly prepared. The situation is similar with the chassis parts, rims and brakes: All of them look like they have rolled straight out of the factory. Due to the completely separated rear frame, the swing arm looks very long and neatly guided. Earth Motorcycles adopts this shape for the planned new rear frame. An acute-angled triangle made of tubular steel forms the new rear. Combined lighting from Highsider is in the ends. In between is an exceptionally guided bench with a short beak, not unlike a bird of prey. The self-made seat plate is reshaped with the original upholstery fabric of the Honda and covered with heavily perforated leather.

Tank unknown, protective plate for lamp

In front of the flat, angular seat, Earth Motorcycles installs an adapted aftermarket tank. Original usage: Unknown. This is adapted to the frame and brackets of the Honda and hugs the oil reservoir in the steering head charmingly. In front of it sits a very neat headlight combination made of two projection lenses that are screwed to the triple clamps in a former fender. Highsider indicators also indicate planned lane changes at the front. The guys from Earth Motorcycles have reassembled the also very neatly crafted exhaust from standard parts and accessories.

Spectrum successful

In keeping with the minimalism, there are only three colors on the Dominator: the frame and chassis are powder-coated in black, the engine has a satin finish, and the tank and lamp mask are adorned with a strong metallic blue.

What do you think of custom conversions?

Many are beautiful, but also impassable.

Better to leave it in its original condition.

Conclusion

Custom bikes can be so easy. But that doesn’t mean it’s easy to build. The road to an extremely clean and minimalistically converted motorcycle is long, sometimes difficult, and often impassable. Earth Motorcycles go way beyond the goal. Your Dominator is a showpiece of intricate simplicity.
