A result that amazes many and possibly leaves no questions unanswered. In the conception of this test, the thesis in the room was that the sporty Michelin Power RS, which was set as the race track winner of the previous year for comparison, will decide the everyday classification (country road / wet) for itself. In return, the assumption is that he will give up in the race standings. Based on this basic consideration, it would have been possible that it would then have put the much more pointed hypersport tires in their place on the balance sheet. After the test, however, we now feel a little like the election researchers of recent years: Who would have thought that…
In fact, nobody expected this final account. The fact that a racetrack high-flyer shines so brilliantly even in the wet – simply amazing. Hats off to the vote on the new one Pirelli Diablo Rosso Corsa II, which in this form has absolutely nothing to do with its predecessor.

1st place: Pirelli Diablo Rosso Corsa II

Pirelli Diablo Rosso Corsa II.
Racetrack: (Air pressure v / h **: 2.5 / 2.3 bar; 96 points, 1st place)
With its comparatively high pressures, which are recommended for the racetrack, the new DRC II is on the ball right from the start. Above all, it is its handiness and the almost exemplary feedback that the Pirelli impresses with in racing and takes the S 1000 RR through corners and curbs of all stripes.
Country road / everyday life: (Air pressure v / h **: 2.5 / 2.9 bar, 92 points, 2nd place)
You were used to different things from your predecessor in everyday life. The DRC II does away with the prejudice that Pirellis are at war with profane everyday curves. Handiness, steering behavior and stability are all right, only in terms of agility it’s got it Dunlop a little better.
Wetness: (87 points, 1st place)
Full acceleration on the straight in the rain and no slip? We are thrilled with how elegantly the DRC can be moved in wet conditions.
Conclusion: In this test, Pirelli does away with the prejudice that racing tires have no place on public roads. Phenomenal feedback as well as grip pads when wet. That makes the DRC Zwo No. 1.
MOTORCYCLE rating: 275 points
** Tire pressure on the racetrack according to the manufacturer’s recommendation.
2nd place: Continental Race Attack Comp. Endurance
Weight: 4.3 kg at the front, 6.9 kg at the rear
Country of Manufacture: Germany

Continental Race Attack Comp. Endurance.
Racetrack: (Air pressure v / h **: 2.0 / 1.5 bar; 88 points, 3rd place)
When warming up, the Conti is still stubborn, it can only be brought up to operating temperature with force. That requires a lot of feeling in the throttle hand. Finally, if the setting is right (warm, high track temperature), performance also increases. Thanks to the great feedback and impressive stability, he is a candidate for the best times.
Country road / everyday life: (Air pressure v / h **: 2.5 / 2.9 bar, 92 points, 2nd place)
The Race Attack Comp. Move smoothly in everyday use on small, winding, but also broadly curved country roads. The typical Conti handiness inspires here too.
Wetness: (86 points, 2nd place)
The agility also has advantages in the rain. The Conti can be precisely circled around wet corners, the grip reserves are really great for a racing rubber.
Conclusion: The mix is what makes the Conti so interesting. The Race Attack Comp works in everyday life and in the rain. Endurance is amazingly good, and on the racetrack he loves a fast pace. That makes him runner-up.
MOTORCYCLE rating: 266 points
** Tire pressure on the racetrack according to the manufacturer’s recommendation.
3rd place: Dunlop Sportsmart TT
Weight: front 4.5 kg, rear 6.9 kg
Country of Manufacture: France
markus-jahn.com, r-photography.info, mps photo studio
Dunlop Sportsmart TT.
Racetrack: (Air pressure v / h **: 2.0 / 1.7 bar; 91 points, 2nd place)
You have to restrain yourself on the first few laps because the feedback from the Sportsmart TT remains very subdued when it is cold. However, when the bike is warm, the feeling tips completely: The initial inertia is gone, the Dunlop-tyred S 1000 RR can be circled around the racetrack with full precision and high agility. The stability when accelerating out of high lean angles is also impressive.
Country road / everyday life: (Air pressure v / h **: 2.5 / 2.9 bar, 94 points, 1st place)
Just a few hundred meters are enough to warm up the Sportsmart TT for the country road hunt. And there it shines in the competitive environment: With plenty of adhesive reserves and easy steering behavior, it can also be used in everyday life.
Wetness: (76 points, 4th place)
With its lack of grip, the Sportsmart TT brushes its sails in the rain at a very early stage.
Conclusion: On the racetrack and in sporty country road hunting, Dunlop’s new hypersport tire comes up to full size with its excellent maneuverability. On wet roads, however, the Sportsmart TT reaches its limit too early.
MOTORCYCLE rating: 261 points
** Tire pressure on the racetrack according to the manufacturer’s recommendation.
4th place: Michelin Power RS
Weight: front 4.3 kg, rear 6.7 kg
Country of Manufacture: Spain
markus-jahn.com, r-photography.info, mps photo studio
Michelin Power RS.
Racetrack: (Air pressure v / h **: 2.1 / 1.9 bar; 83 points, 4th place)
As a broadband everyday sports tire, the Power RS is also fun on the racetrack – and can do better there than its well-known competition. This test does not change anything. But compared to these three hypersport tires, it finally falls behind. The stability is good, but overall there is a slight feeling of sluggishness.
Country road / everyday life: (Air pressure v / h **: 2.5 / 2.9 bar, 85 points, 4th place)
Inertia also remains the basic problem when turning on public curve terrain with the S 1000 RR and appropriately adjusted air pressure. After all, there is no doubt when cornering stability is judged. Here the Power RS is convincing all along the line.
Wetness: (80 points, 3rd place)
It’s okay when braking, but competitors offer more grip when accelerating and cornering.
Conclusion: Michelins Power RS emphasizes his urge for ultimate stability in all evaluation chapters. He can be robust, there is no doubt about that. In return, the feedback, but above all the handiness, falls by the wayside.
MOTORCYCLE rating: 248 points
** Tire pressure on the racetrack according to the manufacturer’s recommendation.
Hypersport tires in everyday and country road tests
All four candidates have grip up to the point, which is an important finding.
MOTORCYCLE
With the Test-S-1000-RR on the country road, under this aspect, you do not even begin to get into critical areas. The stability is also good. But it becomes different when you judge handling, responsiveness and feedback. This is where the wheat is separated from the chaff. All in all, the Dunlop with its enormous handiness can slightly set itself apart from the pursuing duo Conti / Pirelli.
Ranking:
1. Dunlop Sportsmart TT
2. Continental Race Attack Comp. Endurance
2. Pirelli Diablo Rosso Corsa II
4. Michelin Power RS
Hypersport tires in the racetrack test
While the field remains tightly staggered in the sporty country road ride, the point field in the race evaluation is significantly wider.
MOTORCYCLE
The Conti creates the best time, but does not collect the most points. A contradiction? No! Because for the time you have to work properly on the BMW. With the Pirelli, the sharp ride is much easier. The Dunlop continues to impress with its handiness.
Ranking:
1. Pirelli Diablo Rosso Corsa II
2. Dunlop Sportsmart TT
3. Continental Race Attack Comp. Endurance
4. Michelin Power RS
Hypersport tires in the wet test
In comparison to the touring tires from part one, it should be said: Yes, the racing tires are a bit behind, in the rain the travel category of the sports faction drives away a bit.
MOTORCYCLE
0.15 seconds separate the Pilot Power 2CT from the latest successor Power RS in the wet test. This is nothing.
But: the measured values and the feeling are anything but sensitive. Especially when you look at these brilliantly good braking distances. It is interesting that, with Conti and Pirelli, two “hard” racing tires are currently dominating. Dunlop has to give in.
Ranking:
1. Pirelli Diablo Rosso Corsa II
2. Continental Race Attack Comp. Endurance
3. Michelin Power RS
4. Dunlop Sportsmart TT
This is how MOTORRAD tests
The basis for this concept comparison is the BMW S 1000 RR, model 2018. The racetrack analysis and assessment of everyday sporting use was carried out on the racetrack in Alcarràs (Spain). We analyzed the behavior at the limit when it was wet on an irrigated circuit on the Michelin test site in Fontange (southern France). The testers focus on these criteria:
Handiness …
… is the steering force needed to tilt the bike and keep it in line in alternating curves.
Borderline behavior * …
… stands for the controllability of the tire at the limit. Tests on wet and dry roads.
Steering precision * …
… in passages of different speeds with complicated curve radii. Provides information about whether the motorcycle is following the desired course, which is specified by the steering forces, or whether clear line corrections are required.
Liability / acceleration * …
… describes the lateral guidance and power transmission in corners of different speeds (wet / dry).
Liability / inclination * …
… the lateral guidance is in the maximum inclined position (wet / dry). A tightrope walk that is only possible on a closed route.
Straight-line stability …
… is tested at high speed. Does the motorcycle stay stable on course or does the commuting interfere with the journey??
Cornering stability …
… tests the rocking in (alternating) curves and on bumps. Is tested in different modes (solo / with pillion passenger) and in a great lean angle when accelerating.
Setup moment …
… refers to straightening up when braking in an inclined position. This reaction must be balanced out with a counterforce (pressure) on the inside of the handlebar end.
Filling pressure (according to the manufacturer) 2.5 bar at the front, 2.9 bar at the rear (everyday life / wetness), individual race track as recommended.
* The sections marked with an asterisk can be transferred to motorcycles with a geometry similar to that of the BMW S 1000 RR.
Hypersport tire test
Crazy, who would have thought a few years ago that it would come to this. The first super sport tire test in MOTORRAD – or as it is provocatively called: Hypersport – in the rear wheel dimension 200/55! Of course, it was clear that with the arms race in the superbike camp, the tire sizes would have to grow accordingly at some point. The whole thing has little to do with prestige, supersize-me is mainly for technical reasons.
After all, the insane power of the 200-horsepower racing car has to be brought to the road well. And we all know only too well how small the tire contact area, known as “Latsch”, is. In the case of the 200s, one can assume that the surface will now be slightly larger and thus at least offer more grip. On the other hand, the 190s have handling advantages in everyday life, but this discussion was already held with the step from the 180 to the 190 just as it was back then from the 160 to the 180.
At the same time as the 200 class, a new type of tire is now also entering the race. Ultra-stable racing rubbers, which should also offer all kinds of reserves for everyday use on country roads and in bad weather. The category is also a novelty in the form of this concept comparison.
The vote is always interesting. A “fifty-fifty” mixture, so to speak – well balanced for the country road and racetrack. That sounds provocative, but maybe it spices up again. We remember: the field of touring tires in the test 14 days ago diverged almost with a tie. In addition, touring and sports tires have become very similar; hyper athletes can definitely set new accents that sports tires have since lost due to their all-round tuning.
The test field is still clear: Conti, Dunlop and Pirelli are competing with their 50/50 compounds, the race track winner from the 2017 sports tire test, Michelin’s Power RS, is running as a reference. Let The Games Begin …
