“Indian Motorcycle Germany will join the Flat Track in 2020,” says the US motorcycle manufacturer’s press release. Following the Krowdrace last weekend (July 27/28, 2019) in Diedenbergen – the only official flat track event in Germany – the planned commitment was communicated.

Leah Tokelove also competes in the European championship with the FTR 1200.

Indian was the title sponsor of the event at MSC Diedenbergen in the Rhein-Main Arena with two FTR 1200s from their own British flat track racing team. One of them was piloted by Leah Tokelove. In the “Hooligan Drifters” class, she took the win ahead of her team mate Lee Kirkpatrick after the German Jo Bauer fell on a Ducati Scrambler in the final while in the lead.

Several events planned

The Krowdrace was probably the successful dress rehearsal for a serious commitment in flat track racing. Since the sport is currently hardly known in Germany and Austria, wants Indian conquer this niche. Exactly what the plan looks like has not yet been announced, but several event dates have been announced.

The flat track is about 400 meters long oval with limestone-sandstone underground. The sport is particularly widespread in the USA and has a great tradition. Indian can look back on a long history there with the greatest successes in the 50s, when the American championship went to the brand three times in a row. With the current FTR 750 from the American Flat Track Championship, however, only demo laps were made at the Krowdrace this year.

Conclusion

Flat track racing is still an unoccupied niche in Germany. The sport is spectacular and has a lot of potential for enthusiasm. We are therefore excited to see how Indian Germany will approach the Flat Track Racing project.
