Like many other countries, the Southeast Asian state of Indonesia is fighting against ever increasing CO2 emissions. Like the Indonesian newspaper “The Star” Now reported, the Indonesian energy minister Arifin Tasrif has now announced a major electric offensive.

First two-wheelers, then four-wheelers

From 2040, only electrically powered two-wheelers will be allowed to be sold in the country. Ten years later – from 2050 – all cars will also have to have electric drives. The initiative is part of the national plan against air pollution, as large cities like Jakarta are among the most polluted cities in the country.

When it comes to mobility, Indonesia relies heavily on two-wheelers. Around 6.5 million new two-wheelers are brought onto the market every year. With around 1.5 million new registrations per year, cars are well behind. A total of around 115 million motorized two-wheelers and 15 million cars are currently registered in Indonesia.

If so, then only a powerful electric motorcycle.

I can imagine an electric scooter for commuting and city traffic.

A small, agile electric moped is definitely fun.

None at all.

Conclusion

The air for the combustion engine is literally thinner. In the fight against air pollution, Indonesia relies on electromobility. From 2040 onwards, only electric motorcycles are to be sold, followed by electric cars in 2050.
