Isle of Man 2021
TT cancellation for 2021, full program for 2022

After 2020, the TT on the Isle of Man will also fall victim to the corona virus in 2021. In 2022 there should be a comeback with new classes and more programs.

June 16, 2021

The government of the Isle of Man confirmed the cancellation of the TT races 2021 on Monday (November 30th, 2020). The next TT races will now take place in 2022 from Saturday, May 28th to Saturday, June 11th. The early cancellation of the TT races in 2021 should give all fans and participants clarity in good time. All options have been checked, including a possible postponement from June to August. But no variant would offer sufficient security.

Classic TT also canceled

For the races of the Classic TT and the Manx GP, which were to take place later in the year from August 21 to September 3, the organizers were initially still confident. A final decision for the spring has been announced here. In March the time had come. The classic races of the TT 2021 have also been canceled. Here, too, it should not continue until 2022. For racing fans who have already booked flights, ferries or accommodation for TT 2021, the organizers are negotiating with the ferry and airline companies as well as the host companies about a ticket transfer after 2022.

Further information is provided by the TT organizers directly via their homepage.

Lots of new things for 2022

The organizers promise numerous innovations for the 2022 edition of the TT. The now announced permanent live broadcast of the TT events over the two weeks of the event should be particularly interesting for the fans. The permanent show will be set up as a paid stream and will be broadcast on TT’s own digital TV channel, which is scheduled to start in spring 2022. During the race-free time of the year, documentaries and other formats are to be broadcast on TT-TV.

There are also innovations in the Lightweight TT class – which will be given a new name and a new set of rules for 2022. Two-cylinder machines with a displacement of up to 700 cc can then also compete under the title Bennett’s Supertwin TT. The aim is to attract starters on Aprilia RS 660 or Yamaha R7 machines.

There are also changes in the sidecar class. In addition to the 600 four-cylinder and 675 three-cylinder, twins with a displacement of up to 900 cm³ may also be used here. Another new feature is the planned fan park, in which fans should get closer to their idols during the non-race period.

But the organizers are already looking to the year 2023. Then the number of racing days will increase from four to six and the number of races will be increased from eight to ten. There will also be a second race in the Superstock and Supertwin classes.

Conclusion

The TT had to be canceled two years in a row. As a kind of compensation for the fans, the organizers promise a lot of new action for the comeback in 2022 and even more races from 2023.
