Michelin has optimized the rear tire Power RS in wet grip and added a + in the name. We were able to try out the sports tire in the wet.

With the abbreviation RS for racetrack has Michelin sharpened the character of its popular Power series two years ago. So successful, in fact, that the super sporty tire was awarded the “race track” purchase tip in our 2016 test. With so much sporting rigor, everyday comfort fell by the wayside. The Power RS also had to give up when it was wet. Too little feedback, spontaneous slides even when cornering moderately – driving in the rain was not his forte. Which is why the French are now pushing an update called Power RS +, but only for the rear. At the front, the Power RS remains as it was – also in terms of name.

Now at reference level when wet

Our first detailed wetness test with the new set can convince. With significantly more traction, the sports tire can be accelerated and steered through curves. The grip when braking is also pleasing. This can be felt directly and creates more trust, but it can also be poured into tough measured values. Compared to the predecessor, you make several seconds good. The Power RS + is thus on par with the Metzeler M7 RR, which was the reference in wet conditions in the 2016 test. The question of how the new multi-component mixture performs on the racetrack remains exciting. The test is still pending.

MOTORCYCLE check

MOTORRAD awards 3.5 out of 5 stars.

  • positive: clear feedback, very good wet grip
  • negative: small reductions in handiness

The Michelin tires were tested in the dimensions 120/70 ZR 17 and 190/55 ZR 17.
