The horror: But the tank could still be saved with a rust removal set and sealing.

Key off: Start with a small drill and then get bigger and bigger, that’s the trick.

Perfect illusion: These are not easily removable decals on the tank, but rather unruly stickers. Only oily scraping helps.

New territory: polishing the hub was, compared to spokes, the purest children’s birthday. A photo of the spoked wheel helps a lot.

Patchwork: The lively color scheme shortly before standardization – sanded and taped off.

Project Moped: The Kreidler MF2 becomes the dream of two generations

Are not only physical characteristics inherited, but also unfulfilled wishes? Clear answer: yes. At least in this case.

Project: Kreidler MF2

A 14-year-old boy leafs through a Kreidler brochure and raves about a Kreidler moped called the MF2. Lime green with a chrome tank, that’s exactly what it should be. Unfortunately, there is not enough back and front for the 1110 marks new price – and so this dream should never come true. Used mokicks, and later numerous motorcycles, came and went, but the never-owned MF2 left an ugly hole in the two-wheeled vita.

36 years later: A 14-year-old boy is leafing through a Kreidler book from his father’s two-wheeler archive. “Dad, when I am 15 I want to drive a moped. But not a Flory, but preferably an old one Kreidler MF2 and preferably in green
and with chrome. ”A magical moment. And for once it is not only clear to the son: this wish must be fulfilled.

Compared to the numerous Kreidler Flory with manual transmission, the range of MF2s with two-speed automatic on the Internet is rather thin. On the other hand, the prices for really well-preserved copies are quite high – hardly anything goes below 500 euros. And since working together in the garage with a pubescent person strengthens the father-son relationship, after weeks of searching, two extra-rotten mopeds come into the house: one with a special spray can paint in black and red that takes a lot of getting used to, existing papers, only 7000 kilometers away the speedometer and comparatively well-preserved rims. The other in the original sky blue, without papers, incredibly shabby – but with a chrome tank.

The result after numerous weekends and happy hours of working together in the garage: a son who now knows something about two-wheel technology and at times even forgot his Xbox. A father who learned to spoke. And a lime green Kreidler MF2, built in 1978, with chrome parts, in fair condition. And should the desire for a Kreidler Mokick arise soon: There are wishes that you absolutely have to fulfill for your son. And yourself too.
