If you’re reading this, you probably already know more than I do. Because a few days after we finished this BMW special with a lot of passion and love in the MOTORRAD editorial team and sent all the images, texts and data to the printer, the new GS will appear. We have a rough idea of what it might look like, we know that the engine capacity will increase (you don’t have to be a prophet to speculate on a 1250 after the 1100, 1150 and 1200) and we have been figuring out for a long time that the engine is with a very special, variable valve control – keyword switch cam – is provided.

But for us old-school journalists who love to publish information and stories in notebook form, there is a cruel word that means: editorial deadline. And that’s why it has to end at some point, no matter how much you would have liked to have included this really unique top news in the magazine. My online colleagues can only smile about it, because the guys and gals who feed our website at www.motorradonline.de with just as much passion and love don’t know the editorial deadline, of course. And that’s exactly why you now know more than I do: Everything that is important and essential about the new R 1250 GS, the future top seller in the BMW range.
So, far from all speculation about the new star, let’s celebrate again – oops, another cruel word – the old one. But is it really old? You might rightly assign this word to one or the other motorcycle, but this one certainly isn’t. Because during the production of this issue, we once again became aware of what a formidable motorcycle the R 1200 GS is – here it is now quite deliberately IST. Which is why she won the legendary MOTORRAD Alpine Masters just a few weeks ago. Can there be a better bow to this bike? And we are sure: The 12 Series will continue to inspire many of us in the future – as a used one.
