At the beginning of the year, Moto e.V., Ride Free e.V. i. G, Biker Union e.V., BVDM e.V., Initiative Leaning Freedom and Motorradfreunde Sauerland e.V. to form an alliance that supports the campaign “Upshifting – dialogue instead of prohibition” want to advance. This is a reaction to the media and political hunt for motorized two-wheelers as Result of the printed matter 125/20 on the Federal Council initiative of May 15, 2020.

As part of the motorcycle community in Germany, the alliance participants take responsibility and are ready to actively contribute to finding sustainable solutions for existing conflict situations. The focus is on dialogue with motorcyclists, residents and politicians. As different as positions and views in social life may be, exclusion, discrimination and collective punishment were and are not sustainable, explains the alliance on its homepage. Unilateral bans and restrictions on freedom are also not an option.

The catalog of requirements

The alliance is now presenting its demands in a position paper. Here is the position paper in full:

We ride motorcycles for all sorts of reasons, some of us since we were young, some as beginners, others as returning. We love our motorcycles, our shared passion creates identity. We go to work, on vacation, after work, to visit our families. We have different attitudes and views on life, different motorcycle clothing and different bikes. Motorcycling is diversity in action!

#Biker in dialogue – with those affected and with each other! A short-term and sustainable solution to an existing conflict situation can only be achieved by working together. We face our responsibility.

However, we will not stand idly by the unworthy media and political hunt for motorized two-wheelers as a result of the unspeakable printed matter 125/20 on the Federal Council initiative of May 15, 2020.

We emphasize our protest and our unequivocal offer to be open to dialogue nationwide. The motorcycle community stands side by side against exclusion, discrimination and collective punishment.

We urge the responsible politicians, officials and self-appointed noise protectors to be very clear

  • to accept the grandfathering of legally operated motorcycles within the framework of the existing laws and licensing provisions as inviolable
  • to bring about an immediate end to the political and media defamation of motorcyclists
  • to enforce the immediate lifting of arbitrary road closures and deviating speed limits for motorcycles without the prior application of milder means
  • No longer questioning the membership of the motorized two-wheeler in the traffic mix through polemical general condemnations
  • To finally take the often-cited fair balance of interests seriously and to take the outstretched hand of the motorcycle community
  • Prohibition ideologies, expropriation fantasies and thus the implementation of the Federal Council initiative and subsequently submitted applications a clear rejection!

Accompanying the campaign “Upshifting – dialogue instead of prohibition” calls on the alliance to hold numerous demonstrations and rallies. The current dates can be found on the Campaign homepage.

How do you feel about motorcycling and noise??

There is no need for excessive noise, so I adapt my driving style.

This is not noise, but sound – and it is part of riding a motorcycle, no matter how loud.
