Episode # 12 – Youngtimers

It’s hard to believe, but young timers are already machines from the 1990s. For the experienced mechanic and tour guide Ralf Petersen, these vehicles represent the perfect motorcycle. Because, unlike classic cars, the bikes of the late 1980s and 1990s offer relatively modern and reliable technology, as well as sophisticated chassis.

Youngtimer motorcycles are particularly interesting, however, because of their mostly easily accessible and easy-to-convert construction, which also enables maintenance on your own. Especially since the circuit diagram of the on-board electronics can still be deciphered halfway. If you don’t have a cult motorcycle or exotic motorcycle in mind, you can also look forward to low used prices.

Nevertheless, there are a few things to consider so that the youngtimer does not turn into a money grave. In an interview with Ferdinand Heinrich-Steige, our expert Ralf Petersen also explains how important networking is for the scene and why he believes that today’s motorcycles do not expect a great future as youngtimers. Ralf Petersen also leads mechanics courses at the VHS Duisburg and is the author of the series “Screwdriver tips” in MOTORCYCLE. There are also Videos posted on Youtube can be found.
