Formula 1 2018 runs entirely without grid girls, instead grid kids are on the grid. Could that also prevail in MotoGP? At the moment this is not the case, which is why we have put together a best of the season so far for you.

In the near future, motorsport fans could have to do without grid girls entirely. The motorsport associations are currently discussing banning grid girls on racing weekends. Reason enough for us to put together a best of the season so far. The photos in the picture gallery come from MotoGP, the Superbike World Championship and the IDM.

The new Formula 1 leadership has already canceled the grid girls for the 2018 racing weekends, as our colleagues from auto motor und sport report. Ross Brawn, Formula 1 Motorsport Manager, said the following at the end of 2017: “The way women are used in advertising is a sensitive issue. We are currently looking at this very carefully. Many say that grid girls are part of the tradition. Others think the concept may be a little out of dust. So let’s take care of the issue.” Instead, there are grid kids in Formula 1 2018. We already know that from the World Cup and the European Championship. It would seem a lot strange to us if the players ran onto the pitch with (their) players’ wives by the hand. Even though…?

The 2015 Formula 1 GP of Monaco showed what a racing weekend without grid girls looks like. At that time, those responsible decided to hold the Monte Carlo Grand Prix without grid girls. The scantily clad women were replaced by male colleagues. At the time, this measure did not necessarily generate enthusiasm among many racing drivers and spectators.

MotoGP even without grid girls?

A ban on grid girls has also been discussed in MotoGP. Jerez has announced plans to ban grid girls at the Spanish GP in the future. The city council of Jerez asked Dorna last season to host future racing weekends in Jerez without grid girls. In the 2017 season, however, Dorna did not comply with the request. In the future there could be racing weekends without grid girls.
