Two-piece leather suits are very popular on the road. That’s why we’re taking a close look at three inexpensive specimens from 260 to just under 400 euros and want to know: what’s cheap?

After a hearty lap on the house route, you sit down in the cafe and simply take off your leather jacket while your colleague sweats in the one-piece or hardly fits his chair with the station wagon half down. Even short strolls through the city with a jacket over your shoulder are much more pleasant than in a one-piece. Two-piece suits are always more practical. But does it have to be an expensive brand combination or does it also have a cheap one? We order from the wholesalers Buse, Hein Gericke, Louis and Polo, their cheapest two-piece leather suits. The price ranges from around 260 to just under 400 euros.

Afraid of the test results?
Shortly before the test, however, Polo informs us that the Firefox Track 1 combo we want will be revised for the coming year and will not be available. The FLM SM-2 that we also requested was no longer in stock in sufficient quantities, and the third Polo station wagon, the Mugello, was no longer available on time due to the holiday season. Hein Gericke sends at least one of the two station wagons ordered. One could almost think that the manufacturers are afraid of the results.
Let’s hit the door straight in the house: For really sporty use with a certain risk of slipping, these cheap homes are not recommended. On the racetrack, two-piece cars – regardless of the quality – have lost anything anyway due to their design-related weaknesses. But what good are cheap two-piece suits anyway? The first impression of the three candidates is not that bad. Louis relies on buffalo leather, Hein Gericke and Buse on cowhide. The difference is hardly noticeable, but subjectively the leather of Hein Gericke’s PSX Trophy is the most comfortable to wear. Double leather on endangered areas such as the buttocks and elbows ensures more safety in all station wagons during a slide phase on asphalt.
The smaller the textile content, the better; Buse is ahead here. When it comes to the stretch elements, the candidates differ only slightly, all of which offer average material. This price has to come from somewhere on par with branded jeans and summer jackets. Our candidates are definitely safer than them.

Decent material is useless if it is badly sewn. It is true that the station wagons offer safety seams in places at risk of falling, i.e. seams in which the thread is covered by another layer of leather. However, the processing leaves a lot to be desired in our two-piece suits. As soon as you put it on for the first time, the Buse Jerez says goodbye to the trouser fastener – the rivet is too short to hold sufficiently behind the two layers of leather. On the lining of the Louis Probiker Some threads are hanging around loosely, next to the connection zipper the seam looks strangely open over a length of two centimeters and would probably open further.
Hein Gericke also slept during the quality control, because on the right leg of the PSX Trophy the thread is completely missing over a length of almost five centimeters, we can easily put two fingers through it. Apparently the seamstress ran out of thread at this point. Hopefully these are isolated cases, but you should take a close look at the station wagon before you start.
Furnishing
Little surprising in terms of equipment: the cheapest candidate has the least to offer. On the Probiker PRX-9 by Louis, the tiny ventilation inlets on the shoulder are more of a show, caps on the shoulders and elbows are missing, the plastic zippers are good average.
Hein Gericke does it better: Removable 3D lining, caps on elbows and shoulders, good zippers and above all a back protector make the PSX Trophy look good. So far, the Buse Jerez makes the most balanced impression, which apart from the trouser fastener, hardly makes any mistakes.
Protectors
With sales prices of 260 euros for a complete station wagon, you can hardly blame the manufacturers for saving on the protector equipment. So the customer has to decide for himself how much his security is worth to him.
Although standardized shoulder, elbow and knee protectors are standard in our three suits, only the PSX Trophy jacket from Hein Gericke has a back protector. After all, all copies have pockets in which the back and hip protectors can be retrofitted. Louis installs size A protectors on the shoulder of the Probiker, here it should be size B..
Fit
The fit is also only partially convincing. While the pants fit relatively well, the jackets have room for improvement. When you are in a sports posture, all collars press strongly on the neck, even the soft neoprene is of no use. The cut is more suited to naked bike riders who sit more upright.
The arms of the PSX Trophy are far too wide, the sleeves can be twisted easily, and the protector does not sit where it is needed in the event of a fall. A little better, but over
The sleeves of Buse Jerez and Louis Probiker are also too wide for the elbow. In summary it can be said: Those who can afford it should invest a little more money in their station wagon – in our comparison, the most expensive two-piece suit is the best and from our point of view just acceptable.
