Although the spring elements respond great, have decent damping reserves and provide a lot of feedback, especially at the front, there is restlessness in the framework, as with the series.

The bottom line is that Racefoxx is spot on with the conversion. But as is always the case with relatively young machines, the Super Duke still needs some development time to become the perfect racetrack burner.

Racetrack performance for the beast

Content of

With targeted changes to a KTM 1290 Super Duke R, the company Racefoxx is blowing Halali. The plan: a better racetrack performance for the Austrian – a very ambitious undertaking.

Without a doubt, the KTM 1290 Super Duke R is a great motorcycle with great features that is great fun when shooting on the country road. It weakens on the slopes KIn comparison with other current Naked 1000s, TM is somewhat different: inactive seating position, little lean angle, hardly any wind protection, unrest in the chassis. The Racefoxx company comes in at precisely these points and developed some special parts. For example the excellent bench, which is around 30 millimeters higher. The pilot is now enthroned with it rather than in the plane, which means that he can direct it much better. “We have already sold 50 or 60 of these,” enthuses Racefoxx engineer Christian Kuhnen. “Most of them went to racers from the Super Duke Battle.”

Racetrack performance for the beast

1290 Super Duke R shorter to translate. Since the curvature of the swing arm is too close to the sprocket, they would touch. “

Aim at the line, bend it, arrows, done!

On the chassis side, the tuning company relies on Wilbers. The Lower Saxony donated harder springs to the standard fork, revised the damping and reduced the air cushion. At the rear, they adapted their top model “642 Competition” for the KTM 1290 Super Duke R..

But although the spring elements respond great, have decent damping reserves and provide a lot of feedback, especially at the front, there is restlessness in the framework, as with the series. Especially when the KTM 1290 Super Duke R receives an impulse when the shower is wide open, for example when the floor is uneven or when switching, it starts to stir with the handlebars. Changes to the setup brought little improvement. If the KTM can be completely immobilized at all, more extensive interventions in the chassis will be necessary.

Until the KTM 1290 Super Duke R shows perfect manners, the only thing that helps is to use the handlebars with a light hand and avoid hectic movements. In terms of accuracy and handling, it is already top-notch today, as shown by the cam bolt: aim the line, bend it, arrows, done! The fine forged wheels (PVM) also play a major role in this light-footedness. The standard stoppers, however, remained unaffected. As usual, they bite hard, are easy to dose and indomitable.

Racefoxx did not change anything on the engine

Racefoxx did not change anything on the engine or its peripherals. Exceptions: modified air supply, self-made exhaust. “We actually wanted to fine-tune the engine with a Power Commander,” explains the engineer. “But the standard control unit recognizes the module and bypasses it. We have to go back to that. ”A couple of horses tickled the boys from their drive anyway. Our test bench certifies the engine 175 HP and 147 Nm, at least three ponies and five Nm more than the test specimens that are generally very good in the feed.

Regardless of the maximum output, it is always terrific how brutally the KTM 1290 Super Duke R pushes from low revs and throws itself into orbit with its pilot. Thanks to the rich torque, garnished with a soft throttle response and even power delivery, there is no hectic rush, even in the wild. The powerful, sonorous humming of the V2 and the muffled intake noise create a soundscape with goose bumps. Fortunately, the only thing missing is an automatic switch. But this can cause serious engine damage, which is why KTM expressly advises against it and does not accept any warranty in the event of damage. Apparently the valve control shims were already falling out of their seats and rolling through the drive – ouch!

The bottom line is that Racefoxx is spot on with the conversion. But as is always the case with relatively young machines, the KTM 1290 Super Duke R still needs some development time to become the perfect racetrack burner. So then, go to the bride!
