The track demands concentration and a sense of balance from the classic trial riders – and a motorcycle that doesn’t surrender even on a steep slope. We went in search of traces at the Sudklassik in Schemmerhofen.

If you go to a motorsport event at the weekend, you usually don’t have to look far. A colorful sea of ​​flags, hectic loudspeaker announcements, roaring engines and jam-packed parking spaces point the way to the great spectacle. None of this in the classic trial. A few discreet arrows guide the visitor, and whoever misses the grassy field path at the old quarry will find themselves in the idyllic Upper Swabian Wallachia in no time. No hubbub, no clouds of dust, nothing to see from the Sudklassik Trial. But the keen eye recognizes a couple of transporters with trailers on the edge of the field, plus fragrant billows of smoke from the obligatory sausage grill. It has to be.

Because even 50-year-old trialers hardly make a noise.

In addition, the routes – pardon me, it’s called sections of course – do not require a hot ride, but rather a cool head. Trial is anything but a children’s birthday party. Even if the speed is lacking, the meter-high steps and steep slopes with U-turns make you anxious while watching. Anyone who twitches here falls. Mostly downhill and lightly dressed. That is why the acrobats explore their tracks on foot and very meticulously.

Here and there a nasty gravel stone is kicked away or loose ground is compacted with the rough boots. And because trial sport – classic or modern – is there for everyone, you can choose the track and thus the level of difficulty and class yourself, depending on your talent, courage and ability.

Difficulty level can be changed

Green is for experts, black for advanced and red for beginners. Thanks to the color coding, everyone knows where they are going. Too hard, too easy? The track and thus the level of difficulty can be changed from one run to the next.

Registration and entry for the classic trial events, which can be contested with a day license, are just as unbureaucratic. As a spectator, you always get your money’s worth at the classic trial. Regardless of whether you enjoy the technology of the lightweights and the elegant climbing of the actors – or simply the deliciously sizzled grilled food.
