Ducati XDiavel conversion by Roland Sands

For the first time in Sturgis

The 76th Motorcycle Rally took place in Sturgis from August 5th to 14th, 2016. Ducati presented a spectacular XDiavel conversion from the hands of customizer Roland Sands.

At the 76th edition of the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, the traditional motorcycle meeting in South Dakota / USA with over half a million visitors in August 2016 D.ucati is officially part of the party for the first time.

Now one can ask why the Italians took such a long time. And the answer will be that only this year will they have a suitable interpretation of American motorcycling in their range with the XDiavel.

But the (in itself spectacular) production vehicle was not exclusive enough; Ducati let the customizer Roland Sand’s hand lay the XDiavel. What Ducati then presented in Sturgis was an exciting eye-catcher even for local viewing habits.

The Ducati XDiavel juggles and ropes between two worlds right from the start: On the one hand there is the sporty Ducati tradition, which claims sophistication, engineering and driving dynamics. On the other hand, the torque-laden US world awaits, characterized by nonchalance and sovereignty. The Ducati XDiavel aims to be a perfect symbiosis of these opposing worlds – and also to set standards in terms of design.

Roland Sands, in turn, equally at home in the fast and casual world, drove the interpretation of the topic "XDiavel" As expected, well ahead: The design language of the concept bike reflects the strong personality of the Californian designer. A monocoque rear end bolted to the steel space frame, the narrow 19-inch front wheel and aluminum parts milled from solid radicalize the XDiavel into what Sands calls it, "Sport chopper cruisers with distinct Ducati genes". Roland Sands sees the one-off shown in Sturgis as a logical evolution of the standard Ducati XDiavel.

And this Custom XDiavel, built by Roland Sands, exactly represents the spirit of togetherness celebrated in Sturgis."

"The XDiavel is a beast. A wolf in wolf’s clothing and a heating iron to be taken seriously", so Roland Sands, owner and chief designer of Roland Sands Design. "We wanted to keep the fantastic technical equipment of the XDiavel instead of expanding everything. In the three-month construction phase, we concentrated on the design language and its effect. Ultimately, our bike is very much like the original, if you consider the pure functionality. And I am very proud that we managed to strike the balance between great drivability and unique charisma."
