3 new electric motorcycles from Italy
With Soriano Motori, the Italians breathe life back into an old Spanish motorcycle brand – with three new electric motorcycles named Soriano Giaguaro V1R, V1S and V1 Gara.
S.hen the 1950s, no motorcycle from the Spanish brand Soriano Motori has rolled off the assembly line. Until now. An Italian company secured the trademark rights and is now launching three electric motorcycles under the traditional flag. The three electric motorcycles run under the name "Giaguaro", what is italian and translates "jaguar" means.
E-motorcycles with three-speed gearbox
In a way, they remain true to Soriano’s classic design heritage, for example with their aluminum fork based on the Hossack principle. On the other hand, with their liquid-cooled electric motors, they couldn’t be further removed from the internal combustion engine past. The hossack forks of the three Soriano Giaguaros are not the only aspect that is reminiscent of the early Soriano motorcycles. All three models roll with a three-speed gearbox: the first gear should provide the optimum torque for low speeds and can also be used as an engine brake. The second gear is for city traffic, the third for long distances.
The Soriano Giaguaro V1 Gara is the flagship. It provides a peak output of 75 kW (100 PS) and around 145 Nm of maximum torque and should bring it from zero to almost 100 km / h in 3.5 seconds. This would pull it level with the Zero SR / F and accelerate a little slower than the Harley-Davidson LiveWire (in 3.0 seconds from zero to around 100 km / h). The Soriano Giaguaro V1S is equipped with a 72 kW (96 PS) electric motor. It should reach the 100 km / h mark in 4.4 seconds. The Giaguaro V1R, with 80 kW (80 PS), brings up the rear, but should also accelerate to 100 km / h in 4.4 seconds.
Prices start at 25,000 euros
In terms of range, the e-motorcycles with 15 kWh or 20 kWh battery packs offer 120 to 160 kilometers. In fairness it has to be said that these range estimates are likely to apply to highway speeds. For comparison: A Zero SR / F is designed for a range of 132 km at 112 km / h with a 14.4 kWh battery.
If you expected a bargain from Italy at this point, we have to disappoint you. Soriano Motori produces a limited edition of 100 motorcycles for the first production series. The entry-level class is the Giaguaro V1R, which costs 25,000 euros, for the flagship Giaguaro V1 Gara it is 30,000 euros. Each of the three models is available in eight color variants: cream, black, gray, red, silver, blue, green and yellow.
Conclusion
Although it is a small series, the Soriano Giaguaros are three serious electric motorcycles from Italy. Although this cannot yet be compared with the e-commitment of the Italian company Energica, it is far more than Ducati can offer so far.
