Jonathan Rea seems unstoppable. After the premature title decision of the Superbike World Championship in the first race of Magny-Cours, the old and new world champion achieved their fourth double victory this season. With a relaxed cushion of over a second in front of his direct rival Chaz Davies and another second in front of Michael van der Mark, Rea clinched his 14th win of the season. Before that, he had exciting duels with his two pursuers during his race to catch up from ninth on the grid to the top. However, neither Yamha nor Ducati Rea could stop them.

Rea takes on the fight against Ducati and Yamaha

Chaz Davies bravely fought his way to the finish line in second place with two broken collarbones not yet fully healed, having held the lead until halfway through the race. After two successful counterattacks against Rea, the Ducati man had to admit defeat to the superiority of the Kawasaki by Rea. The same was true for Yamaha rider Michael van der Mark. After an excellent start, the Dutchman moved up to the front just behind Davies. Van der Mark tried hard and fast to defend his position against Rea. Here, too, the maneuverability of the Kawasaki finally won and put the Yamaha in third place.

Tom Sykes fought his way into fourth place in the last few laps of the second race.

Fourth place went to Tom Sykes in the last two laps before the finish. The Kawasaki driver consistently drove his laps and, towards the end, benefited from more grip and better times than Marco Melandri, who was driving in front of him. On the penultimate lap, Sykes let the tires prevail and pushed past Melandri’s Ducati, who couldn’t do anything to counter this maneuver.

Lowes disappointed, Honda back in top 10

Strong in the first race, Lorenzo Savadori’s Aprilia had a much more difficult time in the second race. Already at the start from the front row, he lost a few positions that he could not make up until the end. The Italian finally crossed the finish line in sixth, followed by Alex Lowes, for whom Magny-Cours was rather a disappointing weekend after 18th place in the first and seventh place in the second race. Xavi Fores and Leon Camier conquered places eight and nine. The best result for Honda since Misano.

Loris Baz won the hard-fought final top 10 place. The BMW driver fought over laps against Eugene Laverty and Toprak Razgatlioglu. All three fought exciting duels, which were ultimately carried out by Laverty and Baz to the checkered flag. Michael Ruben Rinaldi, Jordi Torres, Leandro Mercado, Jake Gagne and PJ Jacobsen finished 13th to 17th.

Race 1

The four is full: For Jonathan Rea, the path in the first race of the Superbike World Championship in France on the Magny-Cours clearly led to the fourth world championship title. As confident as clockwork, the Kawasaki driver drove home his 13th win of the season and thus won his fourth world title in a row.

Rea wins, Ducati looks old

With Tom Sykes on pole and Rea in second place, Kawasaki started the race with a one-two lead that could not be shaken until the end. Sykes initially managed to defend his position in front of his teammate. But after the first lap of the race, Rea made short work of it and catapulted Sykes into second place. From then on, everything was set for the Briton for a fourth World Cup victory. Tom Sykes secured himself on the silver podium, this time he was able to maintain his pace well compared to the last races and was able to get a good cushion in front of Ducati rider Xavi Fores.

Chaz Davies missed the battle for the podium in today’s race. With fifth place he just managed to defend his second place in the world rankings in front of Michael van der Mark.

Lorenzo Savadori narrowly missed the podium in the first race. Having started from third place, he was able to hold his position for a long time, but finally had to admit defeat to Fores ‘Ducati power and made it to the finish line just before Chaz Davies’ next Ducati. The current world number two crawled lap by lap towards the top squad and finally nibbled at the rear of Savadori with three laps to go. However, the Briton was no longer able to overtake, so it was only enough for him today for fifth place.

Behind Davies, team-mate Marco Melandri was the next to see the checkered flag. The Italian, who will no longer drive for the Ducati factory team next year, fought his way up from twelve on the grid to sixth, successfully limiting the damage for Ducati.

Michael van der Mark and Toprak Razgatlioglu in the battle for seventh place.

Michael van der Mark, Toprak Razgatlioglu and Loris Baz fought a bitter duel in the battle for seventh place. Razgatlioglu in particular did not shy away from any argument, which is why he first had a gripping but losing duel with van der Mark and then with Loris Baz, which he won after a mistake by the BMW driver. Eugene Laverty also took advantage of the second and quickly moved up to Loris Baz in ninth place.

Honda positioned itself outside the top 10 with Leon Camier at 11 and Jake Gagne at 13. In between, MV Augusta driver Jordi Torres sat down. Alex Lowes slipped his Yamaha into the gravel trap on lap two, but was able to continue straight away. However, it was no longer enough for an 18th place.

Superpole

In the Superpole of the Superbike World Championship in Magny-Cours, Tom Sykes takes the lead of the field and thus his 47th pole position for the first race in the afternoon (1 p.m.). In his very last attempt, the Kawasaki driver set the fastest time and a new lap record with a 1: 35.696. While Sykes was still chasing the times, Jonathan rea was already watching the spectacle from the Kawasaki box. Beat by his team-mate Sykes in the last second, the reigning world champion started the race from second place, followed by Lorenzo Savadori on his Aprilia.

Ducati and Honda quarrel

The Reds, on the other hand, had long faces. Although Xavi Fores was able to place fourth on the second row with a 1: 36.613, Chaz Davies was only behind Alex Lowes in fifth, followed by Michael Rinaldi in seventh. Marco Melandri meanwhile starts from 12th place in the action.

Michael van der Mark looked in vain for good lap times in SP2.

BMW driver Loris Baz took eighth position behind Ducati driver Rinaldi. He relegated the Kawasaki driver Toprak Razgatlioglu, who was highly excited from SP1, to ninth place ahead of Michael van der Mark on his Yamaha. Leon Camier, who was also able to qualify for SP2 in SP1, failed to improve further and starts from eleventh place. Teammate Jake Gagne finished in 14th position.

The Superpole was also disappointing for Eugene Laverty. The Aprilia man visibly struggled with his bike on the Magny-Cours, which is why he started from the fifth row with a 1: 37.617 from position 13. Behind Laverty and Gagne are Jordi Torres, Leandro Mercado, PJ Jacobsen, Roman Ramos, Jeremy Guarnoni and Jakub Smrz.
