Last year, according to the organizers, over 700,000 visitors streamed to the world’s largest motorcycle fair, this year even more came according to EICMA: Almost 800,000 people are said to have experienced the motorcycle innovations of the next season live in the exhibition halls in the northern Milan suburb of Rho as many as never before.

Not just a record number of visitors

The trade fair, which closed its doors on Sunday evening (November 10, 2019) after two days for trade visitors and four days for the public, reported further records: 1,187 brands exhibited their products in eight pavilions – two more than in the previous year, that is 47.5 percent more than last year. Almost two thirds of them came from abroad, and manufacturers from 43 countries were represented at EICMA. Of the more than 40,000 trade visitors, a good half also came from abroad. More than 4,000 journalists reported on the event, and they were joined by 4,000 influencers, cameramen and technicians from the media sector.

The exhibition halls are full – the Honda booth was no exception.

Shop windows decorated with mopeds

There are certainly reasons for the good figures communicated by the organizer. One of them is certainly that in odd years like 2019 INTERMOT does not take place in Cologne and motorcycle fans who want to see all the new products are forced to make their way to Milan. But that is not the only reason for the enormous success: Rather, the trade fair has understood how to stage itself as a mega-event. Races, test drives and spectacular stunt shows take place outdoors, the city of Milan is heavily involved with events on the topic, large department stores in the city center decorate their shop windows for the EICMA week with motorcycles, and every year at least one important Italian politician attends the Take a look at the trade fair, which boosts reporting on EICMA. Special trains start from all major Italian cities, with which visitors can travel directly to the exhibition center at affordable prices.

Even in the cold and wet, the outdoor area of EICMA 2019 is extremely well attended.

The EICMA even gets the youngest to be interested in the subject of motorcycles: Whole Milanese school classes, equipped with free tickets, and their teachers cavort on the exhibition grounds. No wonder that with so much interest even the evening news on Italian television regularly reports on the fair. EICMA is a must-see event in Italy – whether you are a motorcyclist or not.
