The boxer business is booming. The 109 hp boxer also has it sporty: the sprint to 100 km / h is done in 3.4 seconds. Six snappy gears engaged, and after 14 seconds the 200 mark falls. With a real 218 km / h the roadster finally runs into the limiter at 7900 rpm. But that’s not supposed to be BMW’s everyday bread. The best area for the 1200s: winding country roads that are surprisingly easy to unwind thanks to precise steering behavior and despite their ample weight (232 kg with a full tank). The engine tuning is convincing. The four-valve engine hangs wonderfully on the gas, the boxer feeling comes through particularly nicely between 2500 and 4000 rpm. One of the sticking points of the predecessor is the coarse, responsive, poorly metered integral ABS. This is no longer an issue with the 1200: The violent pulsation in the hand lever has disappeared, there are fine control intervals and still the best deceleration values at 9.4 m / s². That fits. Last but not least, her victory in the 2007 and 2008 MOTORRAD Alpine Masters shows how good her all-round qualities really are, from sport to touring.

In addition to the general condition of the motorcycle itself, the rear wheel bearing should be checked. To do this, jack up the machine and turn the wheel by hand. Imminent wear is indicated by rough running noises; If it sounds really grinding, the bearing is worn out. Most of the time, the entire wheel already has noticeable play. Another checkpoint: Are the struts still tight?

The new boxer model from Bavaria: the BMW R 1200 R Classic.
The R 1200 R is still a long way from its field and meadow sister GS in terms of its stock figures, but it is offered in good numbers. On the one hand, this means that the prospect has a wide range of options, but the prices are not ruined by a veritable glut. Of course, this reduces the room for maneuver in negotiating prices. An extensive range of extra equipment is typical of BMW. Bare models in the basic version are practically not sold ex works. This also means in the following: A well-calculated accountant model can hardly be resold, or only with major cutbacks. The top extras are above all the heated grips and the ABS.
