Tips for buying used
There are more sensible motorcycles than this Ducati Hypermotard 1100, which was courting pleasure-seeking motorcyclists from 2007 onwards. There are even more sensible Ducatis. Does everything always have to be sensible? Even!

The man in the picture above is called Ruben Xaus, is Spaniard and made his living around ten years ago by racing on a Ducati in the Superbike World Championship – or at the Hypermotard presentation to show how to behave in a species-appropriate manner in Bologna Presented locomotion of the two-wheeled muscle. First shown as a concept study at the EICMA 2005 motorcycle fair in Milan Ducati Hypermotard 1100 was probably the most eagerly awaited motorcycle novelty since the Yamaha Vmax (1983). In 2007 Ducati gave in to the pleading of the heavily hooked fans and finally put the production model in two versions (basic and S version) in stores.

The Ducati Hypermotard 1100 based on the Multistrada, the frame and air-cooled two-valve engine are almost identical, the gearbox comes from the super sports car 1098. In addition, a few noble, but still commercially available supplier parts – a typical modular product. But a beautiful one, which perfectly implemented the concept of the then Ducati chief designer Pierre Terblanche: “The look of a 500, plus the power of a 1000.” Direct hit, never again have delicacy, sinews and muscular stoutness been so perfectly combined.
At least the first edition of the Ducati Hypermotard 1100 is still a long way off. In terms of ergonomics and steering behavior, there was room for improvement, which Ducati implemented at least partially with the 2010 Evo model update (especially with the SP model). That was nice, but not decisive for the war, because anyone who looks at the Hypermotard used range today will understand what it is really about, given the mostly low mileage. In any case, it is not reason.

Dumped: Basic 1100 mid-2009 with Bridgestone BT 016 instead of BT 014 and significantly better handling.
The number of new registrations was never high, the used range is correspondingly clear – but it is surprisingly broad: from very cheap to really expensive.
5990 EUR
Example: 1100 Evo, EZ 3/2010, 53,422 km
Dealer offer from Bavaria: Price would be in the lower range for an early 1100, but that is extremely low for an Evo model – the kilometers are probably a deterrent
from 5500 euros
Sample ad: Hypermotard 1100, 19,000 km, EZ 7/2007, HU 6/2017, full service history, lots of carbon, Alcantara-covered seat, anti-hopping clutch with open clutch cover, LED handlebar end indicators, removable footrests, second control unit, VHB 5699 euros (Private offer from Berlin)
Low price level. There are a few discount offers for the basic 1100s up to 6000 euros. Reasons: high mileage, damage / accident damage, classic “emergency sales” (lack of money?).
from 6500 euros
Sample ad: Hypermotard 1100 S, 7054 km, EZ 7/2008, new general inspection, from first hand, fresh workshop inspection, tires very good, excellent condition, 6700 euros (dealer offer from Baden-Wurttemberg)
Medium price level. The majority of the offer ranges between 6500 and 7800 euros. Good S models are charged from 6,800 euros, Evo models (from model year 2010) are usually well over 7,000 euros (exception: see above). Noticeable: rarely more than 20,000 kilometers.
from 8000 euros
Example ad: Hypermotard 1100 Evo SP, 18599 km, EZ 3/2010, HU 3/2010, second hand, new inspection, Termignoni exhaust, all plastic attachments replaced by carbon, VHB 8599 euros (private offer from Bavaria)
High price level. From the seller’s point of view, the air becomes very thin for more than eight mille, so only first-hand cream slices with very low mileage have a chance. Or – as in the example – the top version Evo SP, with additional refinement if possible.

Dealer interview
InterviewJorg Wahlers, 44th Ducati and Kawasaki authorized dealer in Scheebel, Lower Saxony (www.team-wahlers.de) with a lot of passion and know-how for those who love to convert.
Who is interested in a used Hypermotard?
People who are looking for something light, handy and awesome at the same time. Not frequent riders, but seasoned motorcyclists, from 30 to mid-40s in terms of age. Often they come from the Japanese area.
How popular is the Hypermotard from a retailer’s point of view as a trade-in?
If it is well maintained and has reasonable key data and history – history is very important, i.e. compliance with the inspection intervals with timing belt changes and so on – then you always sell it. They never stood with us for long.
The most popular renovation campaigns?
Exhaust first, mostly from Termignoni. Another timing belt cover and rear conversion are also gladly made. An open clutch cover is also whole
important so that it rattles a little more. Plus lots of little gimmicks: carbon fiber and anodized parts always work.
Keyword Ducatisti type customer – Hypermotard drivers are somehow different?
They don’t use it a lot by comparison. People are converting, they are happy about the great look, but it doesn’t add up to long-distance kilometers. For some, no more than 1,000 to 2,000 kilometers per year.
Do those who drive a little more have an increased fall rate? After all, the basic idea behind the Hypermotard is a knife-between-the-teeth motorcycle?
Clearly no. This is really not a classic shot-and-crash motorcycle. You buy that, make it pretty, it looks great and drives like that, but then nothing is broken. Things look very different with the Panigale, for example, which is very popular on the racetrack.
The basic 1000 and the S version, later the Evo and Evo SP, always differed by at least 2000 euros in terms of the new price. This is also noticeable in the used prices?
The S and SP models are also increasingly in demand with used Ducatis. With all other key data remaining the same, this makes up around 1000 euros for the sales price. In addition, the top versions are usually sold faster, a good Hypermotard is never in the store for longer than a maximum of four to six weeks.
