Market situation

MOTORCYCLE

A medium-high availability on the used market ensures low prices. In addition, Yamaha had cut the last few years at bargain prices.

The ratio of commercial and private providers is roughly fifty-fifty. Second-hand dealers report that the Yamaha BT 1100 Bulldog is a popular model with them, provided that it is well cared for and has few kilometers. Then the Yamaha could be sold between 3000 and 4500 euros within a few days. There are fans and a loyal fan base – black always works, bronze is popular, models from 2005 are more in demand with connoisseurs. But it will be difficult for more than 5000 euros, after all, shortly before the introduction of the Euro 3 standard, cheap bikes at bargain prices were knocked out by 7000 euros, and that was almost ten years ago.

At the time, by the way, many people returning to the market who didn’t care about ABS opted for them as new buyers. Typical returnees of today, on the other hand, do not want to do without the electronic brake aid and other assistance systems and cannot do much with greyed-out carburetor technology. You fail as a prospect. Except perhaps clever 48 hp beginners who see a good basis in a throttled Yamaha BT 1100 Bulldog. Rightly. Pimped up with the appropriate accessories, this also applies to touring riders. Stylistic mistakes, such as aggressive street fighter conversions, are embarrassing and hardly find a buyer, even for the smallest of money.

A typical weak point is the starter clutch. If ugly noises can be heard when starting, a repair costing around 700 euros is due. This can sometimes happen with mileages of around 20,000 kilometers. Incidentally, every 20,000 a major inspection is due, which quickly costs over 300 euros because, in addition to valve clearance, steering head bearings, swing arm deflection and shock absorber are checked. In the event of a maintenance backlog and without regular greasing, the bearings sometimes have to be replaced after less than 30,000 kilometers, and annoying follow-up costs are incurred.

So: check the service book! Because of their good sound, street-legal retrofit rear silencers from BOS, Shark or LeoVince are popular and can also be credited. Purely decorative measures such as mini indicators or partially polished rims as well as minor improvements (e.g. progressive fork springs) do not have to be taken into account in price negotiations.
