Yamaha Tmax conversion: custom bike based on scooters
Yamaha TMax conversion
Chopped scooter from Unikat Motorworks
When it comes to custom bikes, it’s always worth looking to the east. With binoculars to Asia or, more simply, across a border to Poland. A chopped Yamaha Tmax scooter was created at Unikat Motorworks.

- Conclusion
In his younger years, the chronicler himself, with budding mobility, passed all scooters, mopeds and mopeds by far: too weak, too expensive, too fragile and much more. Yes, a scooter in the look of the TMaxxx (yes, with three Xs) from Unikat Motorworks from Wroclaw, Poland would have changed a lot back then. Today: After a few 29th birthdays, such a scooter would be exactly my thing.
Yamaha Tmaxxx from unique
The Tmax is from Yamaha not just stuck with the label Sportroller. Technically, the great superbike era of Yamaha at Tmax. Example: the frame is made of aluminum. Formed in die-casting, large, smooth surfaces with wide radii and arcs result under the lavish cladding. The rear frame and swing arm are also made of aluminum. And that’s exactly what Greg from Unikat Motorworks was looking for during his conversion: Show a lot of the aluminum. Now it has to be said about Greg that he is actually a filmmaker and special effects artist. Both have already earned him an Oscar nomination for the 2010 film Wall Hare. Back to Wroclaw. The Tmax is free of plastic, the aluminum and drive are exposed. Unfortunately also the tank under the former bench. Make new or dress up. Greg decides to convert the tank with a pipe cage to create a new rear end. The open backdrop is clad with perforated sheet metal and uses its structure for a harmonious appearance of the rear LED lighting.
From Leder, Berlin and BMW
Greg adapts a new seat to the new rear frame, covered with fine brown leather and extends the upholstery to the front over the frame and just below the steering head. The standard fork including the double disc brake system works in this. The rims are anodized in gold. The fork is covered with covers between the bridges, which also hold the new LED lighting. Greg mounts the window above it of a BMW C400 scooter. Handlebars and switch units remain original and have been spiced up with accessories and the leather of the seat. An instrument from Motogadget ensures a slim foot in the cockpit. Greg also installed the Key-Less-Go system from Motogadget in Berlin.
More power, less weight
The 499 cubic twin of the 2009 Tmax with its 43 hp is basically good in the forage, paired with the lush 221 kilos, the idea of more power and less weight suggests itself. Unikat Motorworks allows the Twin to breathe more freely through a Malossi filter and an open muffler, and the Yamaha loses a total of 30 kilos in weight. So the power-to-weight ratio should fit much better.

Many are beautiful, but also impassable.
Better to leave it in its original condition.
Conclusion
Maybe it’s time for a scooter. Because of the back and the automatic and such. But if then please a Tmax or even better Tmaxxx as a very fine conversion.
