A 4-cylinder 600 roadster at Benelli? It is shocking, especially from a manufacturer renowned for its characteristic engines and atypical displacements (3 cylinders in 900, 1130, 899). Yet it is the next branded model of the Italian lion that we will see land in 2013… Uh no, the bike does not point its muzzle until 2014. But this machine displays only the name of Benelli, because this BN 600 R is a motorcycle directly from China.
Originally, this machine is a Qianjiang … OK, me neither, that doesn’t mean much to me, except that he’s been the owner of Benelli since 2005 – he is free to use this brand to promote these models. And even if you won’t come across Quianjiang often, let’s not lightly judge this box which sells a million two-wheelers per year..
Thus, it is a Chinese with Benelli marked on it. And technically, it promises to be interesting and sometimes surprising. Already, there is this 4-legged engine, which one would find logical on a Japanese but much less on an Italian. This 599 cc injection and 16-valve unit delivers a little phenomenal power: 82 horsepower and 5.3 mkg. This cavalry is far from sufficient to go tease the Street Triple or the Hornet, the latter happily spitting more than 100 nags.
So where is the target? Mid-range roadsters, such as the ER-6n, Bandit, XJ6 or CBF 600.
We can make some reservations about the relative modesty of the watts available. On the other hand, we remain admiring the equipment of the BN 600, almost at the level of a sportswoman: a frame mixing the aluminum plates and the tubular steel trellis, an enormous inverted fork of 50 mm (what interest of a si big?), 320mm brake discs with 4-piston radial calipers, a swingarm as big as a CBR 600 RR, a 180mm wide rear tire; since 2015, Brembo, better quality tires, a Marzocchi fork, a Sachs shock absorber … It’s tough, the kind of gear that is intended for a much more powerful tracker. Now, the quality of this equipment remains to be seen.
Not ugly but not transcendent either, the BN 600 does not offer the striking and devastating style of an Italian. The pots under the saddle, the sharp radiator scoops, the shock absorber installed laterally, the teardrop mirrors – The effects are there, but the audacity of the design does not catch that much and the identity seeks to to build oneself. Only the lighthouse offers a filiation with models already widespread (not with us) such as the Generic CODE 125, 150 and 200 S or X, itself a little inspired by the 1130/899 TnT of Pesaro.
Originally, this Benelli was to be announced at a shock price, which would allow it to stand out for its sporty roadster equipment as well as for its basic motorcycle price. In fact, the price could not remain breathtaking and falls within the range of the segment. But what will it be worth on the dynamic level, on the quality, on the finish? China arrives in the mid-displacement segment – How will this Sino production surprise us? ?
