It’s not every day that you come across a Bimota in the street. And for good reason, this small Italian manufacturer manufactures very high-end models at a price range which limits its distribution to rich enthusiasts. Its value does not stop at these materialistic considerations. Without this small factory, it is highly possible that the sports models that we see every day might not be as efficient. Why ? Because Bimota has very often adopted innovative technical solutions and has often been copied. “Is that so ?” Would you say to me … Here are some evocative examples: it was Bimota which used the first in series on its machines the 4 piston calipers, the electronic injection, the floating discs or the double cradle aluminum frame. – The Yamaha GTS deeply amazed with its front axle without telescopic fork … Go see the Tesi 1D appeared 2 years earlier -. Today, the Rimini firm is innovating again and unveils 2 motorcycles introducing a new type of frame. Let’s salivate in front of the SB7 and SB6 using re-vitaminized Suzuki mills, and especially the S.L.C.

Straight Line Connection – This is the centerpiece of the bike. Clearly highlighted, this frame immediately appeals to the neophyte as well as the connoisseur. Its simplicity is confusing: The aluminum beams form an absolutely straight line connecting the steering column to the swingarm. This system ensures increased rigidity, a consequent loss of weight and allows to obtain a more compact machine. The SB6, by its reduced size, would be almost timid in the 600 sport category. But within it boils a mill of more than 150 horses.
BIMOTA SB6For its engines, Bimota is supplied by other manufacturers (hence the names S or K or D of its models). The 156 cannons of the SB6 are unleashed by the 4-cylinder of the Suzuki GSX-R 1100, an already impressive beverage that laughs to push such a light motorcycle. It is clear, the Italian is ready to explode the meters. Consider that here you have the sporty model with the most advantageous power-to-weight ratio of the current production..
The very advanced arrangement of the thruster in the frame makes it possible to reduce the wheelbase (that of the SB6 is only 1390 mm), to lower the saddle and to distribute the masses much more on the front than on other sports cars. . The battery is placed in the fairing nose, which further increases the ratio in favor of the front. The bike thus displays a distribution of 53/47.
The train received a lot of care from the engineers. Better than an inverted fork, the Païoli which equips the SB6 is of a particular design. The sleeves are made of several materials: a 2 mm section of alloy over which there is a 1 mm carbon layer. A wetsuit supposed to be stiffer than a reverse while being very light. This adjustable compression and rebound fork is fixed on a steering column whose angle (fixed at 24 ° when leaving the factory) is also adjustable, on 3 ° in increments of 0.5 °.

Would you believe that a 4 cylinder 1074 cm3 is agitated in this template of 250 …? This is one of the striking features of the SB6. Small, elegant, fluid and slender, this fat sportswoman deceives her world as long as a reckless pilot has not unleashed the ardor of her entrails. A little intrigued and admiring glance at the bottom of the beast (the exhausts in the saddle, as on the NR 750, it throws) and it is time to taste the virtues of the Bimota.
Seated, and not perched as on most sports cars, the pilot does not really suffer from his sporting position. The design of the saddle and its low height have a lot to do with it.
BIMOTA SB6This motorcycle may be exclusive, but its driving is done by itself. A winding course is negotiated without difficulty and its stability is really impressive. We could have feared a temperamental and fiery behavior on the part of the chassis but it only knows efficiency and confidence. The suspensions also have a nice role in this story. The front axle erases small imperfections and behaves very nicely. The rear is also very efficient, although the damping is a bit tight in travel. The bike tows very well, and even better than suggested by its geometry very on the front..
Serene and rigorous, the SB6 is waiting for only one thing: a good handful of gas. The power curve profile delivers more mid-range watts to the Suzuki engine when it is in the Bimota. As on the Japanese, it is not very demonstrative at low speeds. But unlike the GSX-R which only really wakes up around 6-7000 revs, the SB6 starts to run from 4000 revs. Afterwards, it’s up to the pilot to cash in on the strength of the mill. In terms of acceleration, this bike is one of the most impressive that exists.

Don’t try to compare it. The Bimota SB6 is as much a weapon as it is a jewel. Technology, passion, strength and innovation have come together on this bike. Its only mistake is the dashboard: with white hands on a white background and tiny numbers, you can’t see anything on the dials. This design flaw goes completely unnoticed in the face of the SB6’s charisma. She seems to be telling you: “Be reasonable, live a dream”.

N.D.L.R – The career of SB6 turned out to be formidable. It was one (if not THE) of the best-selling Bimota in the history of the brand. A few years later, it gave birth to an even more successful version: the SB6-R.
