BMW G 310 GS at EICMA 2016

Shrink GS

"Shrink GS" wrote colleague Stefan Kaschel in MOTORRAD 21/2016 a month and a half ago, "Baby GS" will probably prevail. Regardless of the nickname – both are suitable for the single-cylinder GS.

The basis for the new BMW G 310 GS is the G 310 R, which was presented at the end of 2015: the 313 cm3 single-cylinder provides an output of 25 kW (34 hp) at 9500 rpm and a maximum torque of 28 Newton meters at 7500 rpm. According to BMW, the scales settle at 169.5 kilograms. It is shifted by six gears (multi-disc oil bath clutch), rotated up to a maximum of 10,500 rpm.

BMW G 310 GS and BMW G 310 R

The BMW G 310 GS comes with 49 millimeters longer spring travel (180 mm) at the rear and therefore a modified manifold routing plus a modified heat shield. An upside-down fork with 180 millimeters of travel is used at the front, which is 40 millimeters more than on the Roadster. The Baby-GS takes the tubular steel frame from the parts shelf of the G 310 R, as do the exhaust, headlights, brakes, tank, plastic panels and bench.

The fact that the BMW G 310 GS is recognized at first glance as a GS family member is probably thanks to the duck’s bill. The luggage rack for the top case and side case are fitted as standard. Also standard: the seat height of 835 millimeters. An 820 or 850 millimeter bench is available at an additional cost. Speaking of price: like the G 310 R, the small GS will probably also be available for an entry-level price of just under 5000 euros.

The cockpit with LC display provides information on speed, engine speed, gear, total kilometers, engine temperature, fuel level, range, average consumption, average speed and time.
