The 33-year-old Laverty initially rode in the Superbike World Championship from 2011 to 2014. In 2013 he finished second in the overall ranking. In 2015 he switched to MotoGP before Laverty returned to WorldSBK in 2017, where he worked for Shaun Muir’s Aprilia team for two years. Laverty is under contract with Ducati this season.

Laverty should get podium places

The Northern Irishman should conquer podium places for BMW and thus achieve what Markus Reiterberger has not been able to do so far. Laverty is set to take to the track for BMW for the first time in the winter tests in November. For Reiterberger, BMW wants to do everything possible in the remaining races of the season to achieve a successful season final spurt.

Tom Sykes remains the second driver at BMW. A contract extension is only a matter of form. Sykes is currently ranked 8th in the World Cup table with 170 points. Reiterberger is ranked 14th with 60 points. Ducati rider Laverty follows in 16th place with 41 points. There are still four races left in the Superbike World Championship.
