BMW innovations F 800 S / ST and K 1200 GT
Data carrier
The Bavarians have now revealed the last secrets about their new products for 2006 and the missing data sets for their models F 800 S / ST and K 1200 GT disclosed.
The two 800 models, i.e. the half-clad S and the fully clad ST, are absolutely identical in their basic features. This also applies to the engine. For the in-line two-cylinder with 798 cm3 displacement, developed in cooperation with Rotax, a nominal output of 85 hp at 8000 rpm is specified. With this, BMW even goes a little beyond the generally expected peak performance of 78 hp. The fact that the engines get off to a pretty strong start in the middle of the rev range is supported by the torque specification of 86 Nm, which should already be present at 5800 rpm. A modern engine management in connection with the high compression of twelve to one should ensure effective combustion, accordingly BMW proclaims a particularly low consumption.
The front brake system is quite sporty, the two F models are equipped with 320 millimeter brake discs. One can therefore assume very good deceleration values. An ABS is available for an extra charge, obviously the simpler variant without integral action and brake booster – which is certainly a good solution.
At 204 (S) and 209 (ST) kilograms, the weight also promises sporty qualities when ready to drive. The same applies to the wide tires: front 120/70, rear 180/55. The prices have now been calculated: At 8450 and 9150 euros, the mid-range models keep the appropriate distance to the boxers.
Far above that is the 17,000 euros
K 1200 GT located. Its engine is designed for torque even more strongly than in the R variant, the peak power only had to be reduced slightly to still an impressive 152 hp. Unlike the F models, which are satisfied with premium petrol, the K 1200 GT demands Super Plus. A wide range of adjustment options on the handlebars and seat ensure comfort on long journeys, and the height of the windshield is electric
to vary. The standard ABS remains technically unchanged, so it works partially integrally and with a brake booster. gt
