BMW R nineT Pure and BMW R nineT Racer at INTERMOT 2016

On the retro wave

BMW opens the round of INTERMOT press conferences in Cologne – with the BMW R nineT Pure and BMW R nineT Racer. The recipe has already proven itself: new bikes with old technology, i.e. with air-cooled boxers.

With the BMW R. nineT Pure and the BMW R nineT Racer, the R nineT presented in 2014 now has sister models number two and three after the Scrambler. They thus form BMW’s new “Heritage” series. What they all have in common is the air-cooled, 1170 cubic boxer engine, which continues to have 110 hp even in the new Euro 4 vote.

As the name suggests, the BMW R nineT Pure model comes as a purist version and is designed as a no-frills, two-seater roadster. Completely undisguised, the Pure is a naked bike that can hardly be more naked. A single round instrument with a speedometer and a small LC display for the time and mileage must suffice as a cockpit. A tachometer is only available at an additional cost. The basic equipment of the 17 liter tank is made of sheet steel, aluminum is also available, but costs extra. The same applies to classic wire-spoke wheels, which can be ordered instead of the standard five-spoke cast rims.

ABS as standard – nothing else

In terms of electronic driving aids, the BMW R nineT Pure and BMW R nineT Racer only have ABS on board as standard. A traction control, in BMW language ASC (for automatic stability control), can be ordered as an ex-works option.

The two new BMW products will go on sale in March 2017. The basic BMW R nineT Pure will cost 12,300 euros, while the BMW R nineT Racer will cost 13,300 euros.

BMW Motorrad boss Stephan Schaller also announced another Heritage model for EICMA 2016.
