BMW offers a new vision of sport tourism with this K 1600 GT. A fast and noble cruiser, direct lieutenant of the richest GTL version. While the latter is placed in majestic road, the GT plays in a more sporty segment and replaces the K 1300 GT; with much higher benefits. It is indeed the only one in its segment equipped with a 6-cylinder boiler. Something to feast the senses and driving, because the approval of such an architecture, its flexibility, and the strength of such a displacement can only be a mixture of joy and generosity. The couple only know that word. It peaks at 17.8 mkg, of which 12 are available from 1500 rpm. To illustrate, consider that you have the maximum torque of a Suzuki GSX-R 1000 after turning the throttle a centimeter.
Identical in chassis and engine to the K 1600 GTL, this GT is distinguished by its more sporty aspect and its lesser equipment. No top-case, a different twin-saddle, a more forward riding position due to the lower handlebars and closer to the steering (slightly however) and overall less senatorial – the seat is higher, the bubble less imposing, the footrests higher and back -, a 24-liter tank, and a few touches of refinement withdrawn. These are the details: ciao the chrome side trim strips on the cases and fairing panels, the chrome bar ends and spoilers and other little niceties – not much, what, but it’s the imperceptible little touch of luxury that goes with it. makes the difference.
Not a big deal given the on-board technological equipment to outline the road for you at your convenience. In addition to its velvety engine and its rigorous chassis (double aluminum frame, Duolever, Paralever), the K 1600 GT has, like its sister, a self-adaptive headlight which illuminates in turns and maintains a constant height despite the changes in attitude. In addition to the ABS and the three injection maps (Rain, Road, or Sport), there is obviously a whole host of options to reinforce active safety: traction control, electronic adjustment of the suspensions, control of tire pressure, etc…
On the handlebars, you will find a control post close to that of the Bavarian sedans. Between the traditional needle counters is housed a 5.7-inch TFT screen allowing you to control all the functions of the bike. You manipulate it via an idrive wheel, with your left hand; technique that appeared on series 7 cars. Between the dials and the electrically adjustable screen, you will find a place to house the in-house GPS, and thus make your dashboard a real Airbus cockpit.
Displayed at 2,000 euros and around thirty kilos less than the GTL, the BMW K 1600 GT disturbs the GTR 1400, Pan-European and 1300 FJR on their ground. OK, it costs a lot more, but offers two more cylinders and a new vision of tourism. However, Suzuki already had a nice 6-cylinder project with its Stratosphere. Too bad the Japanese wasn’t tempted. Because Behème carves out a good reputation with this interstellar cruiser.
