BMW R37 1925

A few years after its R32, BMW launched a second motorcycle model: the R37. Still powered by a 494 cm3 flat-twin, this machine makes a spectacular leap in performance. The engine here delivers 16 horsepower at 4000 rpm, i.e. twice the power.

Produced in 152 copies, the BMW was sold for 2900 Reichmarks, almost 30% more expensive than the R32. Although its engine had the same cubic capacity as that of the first BMW motorcycle, it was clearly differentiated by several technical solutions. Valves placed at the head of the cylinder head, 26mm carburetors, a compression ratio pushed to 6.2: 1, a different fin layout to improve cooling made it a much faster machine than the R32. With the R37, the brand had just created its first sports motorcycle. The transmission was, as usual, provided by a universal joint. Marketed for two years, from 1925 to 1926, the BMW R37 had a very successful racing career, winning many races of the time.
