The cousin F 800 GS having gone on a mop with its new face, the 650 did not intend to stay wisely in its 4-year-old suit. Almost jealous, it didn’t take long for her to express her wrath at the motherhouse. BMW then leaned over her, took out the toolbox, the silicon chip clamp, and the Kw inflometer.. So, bye bye the 6 and ½ GS, and place to its evolution 700 GS.
Born in 650 and raised today to 700, the BM actually plays on the numbers, because its twin cube actually 798 cm3. No change in displacement between the old and the new generation, nor with the F 800 GS, but a revised mapping to offer 4 more horses. The twin cylinder therefore announces 75 horsepower at 7300 revs, increased torque with 77 Nm at 5500 revs (obtained 1000 trs higher than on the 650), and a shortened sixth gear ratio. The 800 GS reserves a good dose of fishing in addition with 85 donkeys, just to mark its difference.
To conclude this series of figures, the F 700 GS is already ready to receive the European A2 license: the engine can be limited to 48 horsepower.
With its spoked wheels, smaller front rim and reduced suspension travel, the F 700 GS is clearly less all-road oriented than its 800 sister. Its domain will be more asphalt, city, and ease of use. trail to get rid of everyday life. The 2013 evolution brings a big plus in terms of safety. A second front disc and a disconnectable dual-channel ABS (standard) reinforce the braking. Then, by tapping into the list of options, this GS turns into a bionic machine. Depending on your desires and your wallet, you can add ADC tire pressure control, in-house ASC traction control, and automatic ESA suspension adjustment – electronic refinements reserved until now for large machines such as the R 1200 GS.
By digging a little more into the (very extensive) list of options, you have enough to create a real showcase of the world of GS. Among the most useful: Vario cases, heated grips, several types of screen, saddles, and engine shoes…. There are three pages like that !
No more fishing, no more braking, all in an almost unchanged chassis. The frame remains the trellis in steel tubes connected to a classic 41 mm fork and an aluminum swingarm. The other line of development is more stylistic and ergonomic. The F 700 GS recovers the new BMW commodos (with the indicators on the same button, as on all the other brands) and the smoked jars of the latest generation of machines from Munich. The instrument panel houses redesigned dials, which now display the fuel level and engine temperature. As for the silhouette, the design office only retouched the front of the bike. By modifying only the fairing sides and the ‘duckbill’, but with finesse and dynamism, the F 700 really gains in sex appeal.
Safer, more powerful, sexier, the new F 700 GS takes up the torch of the previous 650 with more confidence. It is giving itself more resources to mark the urban terrain, and highlight its technological background.
