Brixton 1200 could come in 2021
Bonneville competitor should go into series

It’s not official yet, but everything indicates that Brixton is aiming for series production of the Brixton 1200, which is to position itself clearly opposite the Triumph Bonneville. Now there are new patent drawings.

At EICMA 2019, the focus at Brixton was still on motorcycles with up to 500 cc displacement, but that could soon change, because the brand presented a 1200cc prototype in Milan in a retro look with a mighty inline twin cylinder.

The future Bonneville competitor was shown with a 1,200 cm³ parallel twin, which uses air cooling, but uses liquid cooling. It is fed by an injection system. Apparently a single camshaft rotates in the cylinder head, actuating the valves via rocker arms. Further impressions of the new engine are provided in China by patent images that come from the engine manufacturer Gaokin, who already produces units and motorcycles for Brixton.

Patent for design ready for series production

After the engine sketches, patent drawings have now emerged with which the brand owner KSR has protected the design of the Brixton 1200 for the European market. The deviations from the study shown at the time are marginal. You can now see a license plate holder, repositioned rear indicators and a modified seat. The rear silencers also look longer – presumably a concession to the Euro 5 requirements. The front brake discs, including pliers and small items such as the lamp holder or the footrest mount, have also been modified. However, these design drawings do not yet reveal a name for the series production. However, attentive observers have registered that KSR has recently also had the Lexington name protected. With the 1200, Brixton would position itself as a cheaper alternative to the Triumph models, but also significantly higher than before. The brand is part of the Austrian KSR Group, which imports a whole range of Chinese bikes, but also produces its own motorcycles. The new Brixton will in all likelihood be produced in China, but it was designed in the newly opened KSR design center in Austria.

A premiere at the EICMA is conceivable

There is no official information from Austria about the Bonneville competitor yet, but at least the statement that the prototype presented “shows the way from Brixton Motorcycles to even higher displacement classes and proves the development competence of our brand”.

The manufacturer himself does not specify a specific time span: “It is a declared goal that this motorcycle should also go into series production. When that will be has not yet been determined. We want to create a technically mature vehicle without any time pressure that does more than just meet the high quality requirements in these cubic capacity classes”. The patent drawings of the engine that have now emerged could indicate a premiere in 2021. The ideal stage would be EICMA 2021 in Milan.

Conclusion

Brixton seems to want to position itself higher class. The EICMA study from 2019 could become a series model as early as 2021. A 1200 with a retro look – that would be something.
