A bike for Al Capone – whitewall tires really are “deluxe”

Buell bikes have always been real eye-catchers. This does not change with the CityX presented in Munich – "City Cross" pronounced – not. An urban streetfighter that certainly feels at home on winding country roads. For this, Harley reaches deep into the retro box.

The noble motorcycles from Buell have always been known for their extravagance. And not just because a modified V-engine from Harley-Davidson always provides the drive. Anyone who raises their eyebrows skeptically and associates leisurely paces with the classic V-Twin is seriously wrong. Because no rating is less suitable for a Buell…
New streetfighter from Buell
A real streetfighter is hidden behind the awkward name "Lightning CityX XB9SX". The heart is the well-known air-cooled 984 ccm 45° V-Twin, which has an output of 84 hp at 7.400 rpm and a maximum torque of 86 Nm at 5.600 rpm releases.
Extravagant plastic look
In terms of performance, the Buell loses a little compared to the competition – but it easily makes up for it with looks. Because the innovative design of the new Lightning CityX is characterized by various dark blue through-colored plastic parts that are partially transparent. Both the air filter cover, which is located where the fuel tank sits in conventional designs, and the slim windshield are finished in translucent "Hero Blue". The rear apron insert is in the same colour, which provides a subtle contrast to the black light-alloy wheels, the black front fender and the black engine spoiler. The design of numerous components is based on supermoto and off-road sport: These include the headlight protection, the handlebars with hand protectors and center brace as well as the new seat.
Super short wheelbase
The ultra-short wheelbase of just 1.320 millimeters – in cooperation with the extremely steep steering head angle of 21 degrees and the low center of gravity. Other fine features include the remarkable 375 millimeter Zero Torsional Load (ZTL) disc brake on the front wheel, the fuel tank integrated into the light alloy frame and the light alloy swing arm, which also serves as an engine oil reservoir. Technical delicacies so where you look too – at a curb weight of 205 kilos. This proves the approximately 20-year-old brand, which is now majority to Harley-Davidson, once more courage to extravagance.
Harley remains classic-traditional
By contrast, the large Group of Councils presented classically. Because while it can not be progressive if it can not be progressive in Buell, Harley continues to feel committed to the tradition. Four new series models characterize the year 2005: The FLSTNI Softail Deluxe, the FlstSsci Softail Springer Classic, the FXDCI Dyna Super Glide Custom and the XL 883 L Sportster 883 low. Granted – Really clearer make the "abbreviating" model designations the program. But the bikes themselves are very dignified eyes.
Reminiscences to the past
The Softail Deluxe, with its whitewall tires or black Springer fork, harks back to the 1950s, while the Softail Springer Classic is intended as a homage to the 1930s and 1940s. Like the Softail Deluxe, it is powered by the well-known V-Twin, which is rigidly connected to the Softail frame
In the 1970s, however, stands the Dyna Super Glide Custom, Harley-Davidson’s new one
numerous details of this machine are bathed in chrome and silver. And those who value a low seating position above all can float exactly 66 centimeters above the ground on the Sportster 883 Low.
New clear glass headlights
Modernizations at Harley usually run rather inconspicuously. The maintenance measures that will benefit almost all models in 2005 include new clear-glass headlights with an integrated Harley-Davidson logo. Not that that’s necessary! Because a Harley will always be recognized as such in the future. The traditional brand takes care of that itself.
