The war in the neo-retro / vintage / revival segment is in full swing and is growing every year. But it would be wrong to believe that the fights are only contested in large engines, among the Nine-T, Bonneville, Thruxton, CB 1100 RS, Commando and sisters. On the side of the 125, it bites severe too. After Mash, Orcal and Icône, among others, the Bullit brand launched its offensive with the Spirtit. A caustic little cafe-racer with English blazère charm.
Crafted to suggest the English spirit, old-fashioned racy and aggressive like a starving dog, this 125 looks like a piece of news that wants to smash the world. And the style calls out. With its front ready to cut into the rock, the road could become intimidated in front of the Spirit. The triple trees descend more than reason to trap the inverted fork and tip the rider forward. The bracelets placed under the upper tee invite to attack, while the small counter placed in the central position displays a clear touch of modernism in this old-school atmosphere. Too bad, the brake chamber looks really cheap, and some parts do not seem to come from a top quality foundry.
Fans will have a lot to detail elsewhere, with this pair of spoked rims, this minimalist front fender, the conical pot, the shocks with separate cylinder, the perforated racing-garage style airbox, the black casing headlight, and the chrome coating affixed by provocation to the chain guard and mirrors.
As with all vintage-low-cost motorcycles in this segment, Bullit has also chosen very vintage mechanics. There is no room here for a latest generation block like on a Duke or an MT-125. Nostalgia and economy exercise their rights, hence an old-fashioned engine, extrapolated from an antique Suzuki block: 2 valves, air cooling, a power culminating at 11.6 hp and enough to run smoothly. That said, a cafe-racer of this displacement cannot be bought for its performance but for its looks. However, the technique allows itself to be dominated by the laws and standards of modernism. What brings on the Bullit an injection and a coupled braking. The latter united a 300 mm disc at the front bitten by a 3-piston caliper with a 210 mm disc at the rear + 1-piston caliper. It should do the job, not the zeal.
Based on the same platform as the Hunt and Hero, the 125 spirit immerses itself without restraint in the cafe-racer spirit. The seat cowl gives the illusion of a single-seater seat, just as the handlebars-bracelets will make you want a street GP. The trend is there, the market is just waiting to be convinced.
