KTM launches in the urban 125 with the Indian Bajaj
KTM has just signed an agreement with the Indian manufacturer Bajaj for the production of an urban 125 in 2010: after switching from off-road to road with big hairy cars, the Austrian is preparing his return to the small-capacity utility.
With 126 world champion titles and several Dakar victories, KTM has achieved a spectacular turnaround in just a few years: traditionally renowned for its off-road motorcycles, the Austrian manufacturer is gradually establishing its models on the road thanks to its network of "V2" dealers and is now preparing to explore the 125 "nicheurban".
This is the objective of the agreement signed with the second Indian manufacturer of motorized two-wheelers Bajaj, which in the process takes 14.5% of the capital of KTM via its Dutch subsidiary Bajaj Auto International Holdings BV and will distribute in India and in Southeast Asia KTM motorcycles.
KTM Sting 125
The Austrian manufacturer, which has already produced road 125 in the recent past, notably the 125 Duke and 125 Sting, is thus preparing to take up a position in the growing niche of small-displacement urban vehicles to take advantage of the boom in “motorists” abandoning the traffic jams to go to work on two-wheelers: this phenomenon should become widespread in Europe with the new European license allowing car license holders to drive a 125, as is the case in France.
KTM LC2 125
Like other major manufacturers who refuse to produce scooters despite strong global demand – read in particular our Live Chat with Eiko Kirino, General Manager of Kawasaki in France (), KTM is not currently considering a "new" foray into this juicy segment. "New" foray "because indeed, KTM produced mobs and scooters until 1988! Who would have believed it ?

KTM Okay (1983)
The future small KTM, produced on the chains of Bajaj in India for reasons of cost "with KTM know-how and technology", will therefore indeed be a motorcycle, available in 125 and 250 cc."It will be designed by Kiska, our usual design agency", specifies to Site Jerôme Delziani at KTM France.
While it is still too early to know what the new KTM 125 and 250 will look like, it is already clear that they will be equipped with a water-cooled 4-stroke engine … and that they will look like KTMs! "Marketing is scheduled for 2010 but development starts now", specifies Mr. Delziani.
