The very serious Financial Times has just announced that the company Infront Sports and Media – which owns the commercial rights to the World Superbike – is for sale. But the majority shareholder of Dorna would be in the ranks…

Infront Sports, which bought the commercial rights to the World Superbike two years ago from the Flammini brothers, is on sale. In any case, this is what the English daily Financial Times has just indicated..

This news is causing a stir in the motorcycle industry because among the three bidders is the private equity group Bridgepoint, majority shareholder since 2006 of Dorna Sports which holds the rights to MotoGP. !

Also in the ranks according to the Financial Times: the investment fund of the State of Qatar – which has also just acquired 70% of the football club PSG – as well as an unidentified fund based in Abu Dhabi (Emirates United Arabs).

Assuming that Brigepoint’s offer succeeds, it’s a safe bet that the latter will ask the promoters of the two motorcycle speed world championships – Ezpeleta and Flammini – to kindly review their formulas. Too close to each other, their competition would harm the commercial interests of their common manager.

Would we then see MotoGP and Superbike – but also Moto2 and Supersport – differentiate themselves more clearly, or on the contrary merge to give birth to a single world speed championship? Case to follow, on Site of course !
