As part of the 10th international motorcycle conference organized at the Intermot fair in Cologne (Germany), motorcycle and scooter manufacturers gathered within the Association of European Motorcycle Manufacturers (ACEM) unveiled a "new strategy" for "improve safety levels for motorcyclists in Europe".

In a (in English) entitled "The safe ride to the future", the manufacturers undertake in particular to offer by 2020 cooperative intelligent transport systems (ITS), that is to say safety systems that allow communication between vehicles as well as between vehicles and infrastructure (read our and our).

"ACEM members are committed to providing at least one of their models with a cooperative STI by 2020", indicate the manufacturers who are also preparing to "study one for motorcycles, that is to say. say an on-board system that issues emergency calls as soon as an accident occurs ".

Training label

Beyond the technological aspect, manufacturers also rely on the training of motorcyclists to improve road safety on motorcycles. ACEM and the German Road Safety Council (DVR) have therefore "joined forces to promote high quality voluntary post-license training programs across the European Union, via a DVR-ACEM quality label".

This label will "help European motorcyclists to easily identify the high quality training programs available to them", indicates ACEM, which intends to organize workshops in several European countries to "identify and promote measures to improve road safety at national, regional and local levels ".

These workshops, which will allow the public authorities to exchange views with biker organizations, will address in particular the questions of "the design and maintenance of road infrastructure, as well as the promotion of respect for the highway code"..

"The number of fatal road accidents among users of motorized two-wheelers is falling in Europe," noted the new secretary general of ACEM, saying that "these results are encouraging, but there is still a long way to go. The motorcycle industry intends to continue to promote and support all initiatives which help to improve safety on European roads ".
