No, Horex is not dead! Saved in extremis from news by a German company, the small manufacturer from across the Rhine formalized the maintenance of its activity at the Milan motorcycle show by exhibiting new special editions of its incredible 6-cylinder roadster, the VR6…
The Horex adventure continues…
Placed in after several months of, the German manufacturer behind the VR6 roadster was finally bought in February by a Bavarian company specializing in the manufacture of composite fiber components also engaged in the German Superbike Championship (IDM).
This recovery came after a long period of uncertainty for the Augsburg company and its thirty employees, following the financial difficulties quickly accumulated after its relaunch in 2010 via an incredible 1218 cc V-six engine roadster (read our Interviews since then).
To celebrate this "return to business" and communicate to the public its continued activity, Horex exhibited its 2016 range at the EICMA in Milan (Italy), on a large booth with a careful presentation..
As before, this offer revolves only around more or less luxurious versions of the VR6 and its V6 engine, the main characteristic of which is its very closed angle of 15 ° which gives it a – relative – compactness. This block evoking the Volkswagen V6 transmits its power via a chain to the rear wheel, fixed to a single-sided swingarm.
Advertised for 168 hp and 138 Nm of torque – a little more than the -, the Horex of the "3-Carbon Group era" have hardly changed visually: the bike retains the same classic look and quite massive (221 kg dry …), despite the shortening of its aluminum rear buckle which has visually lightened its rear part. On the other hand, we note with satisfaction that the improvement of the finish continues since the first models..
These versions are available in Silver Edition – gray, with brown two-seater saddle – and Black Edition – black and gold, single-seater saddle, raised silencer … – and can receive various specific fittings, such as for example a Cafe Racer-style handlebars on the Black . Oriented high-end, these new versions are adorned with carbon here and there – logical, given the scope of activity of the buyer! -, especially at the level of the instrumentation and the wheel arch.
The double stainless steel exhaust pipe covered with perforated covers is unique, while very luxurious peripherals are added such as fully adjustable Ôhlins suspensions (including a superb TTX 36 combination at the rear) and Brembo radial-mounted brake calipers installed around petal cutting discs.
Like many small manufacturers, Horex continues to focus on exclusivity and high-end to compensate for its low volume of sales: these motorcycles will be manufactured in only 33 copies each, at an undisclosed price but which is ad salty insofar as the "basic" version costs around 22,000 euros.
A new VR6 promised in spring 2016…
This positioning and the uncertainties linked to the multiple rebounds of Horex do not seem to slow down the enthusiasm of enthusiasts, since all the VR6 Silver Edition put on sale after its official presentation – organized in mid-September at the Frankfurt Motor Show (Germany) – have already been sold, assures the manufacturer.
The marketing of the 33 models of VR6 Black Edition will begin in "December 2015", reveals the brand which also announces that a new version of the standard VR6 will be unveiled in "spring 2016". And why not with the compressor provided during the, with the key to a promised power of 200 hp ?
