Peugeot Motocycles will launch at the end of 2010 the production of its two new scooters (the electric e-Vivacity and the GT Compact) in its French factory in Mandeure (25). The manufacturer also plans to manufacture its hybrid three-wheeler on site (read) but it has not yet revealed the production schedule..
The new e-Vivacity electric scooter, whose motor will be powered by lithium ion batteries, will have a range of 60 kilometers for urban traffic (maximum speed of 45 km / h), says Peugeot, which targets a clientele of institutions in addition to the traditional target of individuals.
The GT Compact will be launched in a 125 cm3 version at Mandeure for assembly and at Dannemarie (68) for the engines, the management indicated. Its manufacture had been conditioned on the increase in working time, finally obtained last year after several months of tug-of-war with the CGT and CFDT unions..
The CFDT section however fears a "very difficult year 2010" for the French sites, in the absence of other launches before the end of the year or of overhaul of existing products. She also denounced a "growing policy of manufacturing in China".
According to Christian Pellet, director of human resources, Peugeot "needs both Franche-Comte and China", the latter to produce low-cost models for emerging countries. In France, Peugeot Motocycles mainly produces the large Geopolis and Satelis scooters, and the 50 cm3 Ludix.
The manufacturer employs 850 people in Mandeure and Dannemarie. Its workforce has fallen by 250 people over the past year as part of the voluntary departure plan from its parent company PSA, "natural" departures and transfers within the automotive group, recalled Mr. Pellet..
