Business - Seurat goes to the power of three! -

Motorbike enthusiast and founder of SIMA, Marcel Alexis Seurat left his mark on the world of two-wheelers in France. A great name that her granddaughter and her husband proudly take over in their new accessories import company.

The Seurat Saga

  • 1968 : Marcel Alexis and Jeannine Seurat transform the family heating and plumbing business into an importing company of the Spanish brand Ossa.

  • 1973 : start of the accessories activity with Speemode and Akront and ignition with Motoplat.

  • 1976 : import of Husqvarna motorcycles, relocation from Paris to Beaune.

  • 1980 : until then concentrated on the exclusive importation of Husqvarna and Ossa, the company expands its activities and becomes SIMA (Company for the import of motorcycles and accessories).

  • 1982, 1983 and 1984 : stop importing Ossa and importing Gilera, Beta and Aprilia (cross and enduro).

  • 1988 : start of importing motorcycles from the Cagiva Group (Ducati owners since 1983).

  • 1992 : SIMA sells 3,758 motorcycles including 1,600 Cagiva to the French army.

  • 1995 : creation of the SIMA boutique (accessories and clothing). 5,708 motorcycles sold.

  • 1997 : Import from MV Agusta. 6,468 motorcycles sold.

  • 1998 : Claudio Castiglioni sells Ducati to the American Texas Pacific Group. End of importation of Ducati, which represented 60% of SIMA’s turnover, and importation of the Laverda brand.

  • 1999 : first import of MV Agusta and import of San Remo and Morad rims.

  • 2002 : import of the Benelli brand and distribution of OZ spoke rims.

  • 2003 : import of the Husaberg brand.

  • 2004 : import from Arctic Cat, world leader in snowmobiles and a player in the approved quad market.

  • 2007 : Maïte and Franck-Christofer Javos (the granddaughter of Marcel Seurat and her husband) buy the accessory part of the SIMA under the Seurat Power 3 brand.
  • The visitor entering the new 130 m2 offices of Seurat Power 3 is immediately greeted by the bust with the smiling face of the late Marcel Alexis Seurat: "the name "Seurat" means something in France "", explains Franck-Christofer Javos,"many of our new clients come to us with confidence, having known or worked with Mr. Seurat one day".

For more than forty years (see box opposite), Marcel Seurat was indeed a brilliant motorcyclist: first rider, then importer, pioneer in many fields and inventor of events such as the Bol d’Herbe, in particular , accessories distributor, preparer, but also manager and talent scout.

It was he who set foot in the stirrup of renowned pilots such as Stephane Chambon, David Fretigne, Ludivine Puy and many others: welcoming them to his home in Beaune, the charismatic boss of SIMA accompanied them. more than one on the way to success !

After her death and the change of hands of the company SIMA, her granddaughter Maïte and her husband Franck wanted to take over the accessories activity and create in her honor a new structure called "Seurat Power 3" (for third generation ) whose headquarters are still in Beaune.

A kind of homecoming for the couple who, like the Seurat spouses in 1960, started from a blank sheet in January 2008 with will and passion: the small team of five people is now an importer of Hagon and FG Gubellini shock absorbers, San Remo, Morad and Alpina rims and the important Magura range (handlebars, foams, levers, master cylinders, etc.). A diversified and quality offer grouped in the 450 m2 of the depot !

Regarding the rims, Franck Javos and his team are proud to announce that they own them "nearly 3,000, the largest stock in France", which gives the company"better responsiveness whatever the request !"

Reactivity in unison with an area in which Seurat Power 3 excels: rim shelving. Reserved for old motorcycles, cross-country or supermoto machines and a few contemporary road bikes, this practice requires unique know-how and a trained eye, as Didier Dole, former pilot and trainer for the competition department of SIMA, confirms: "poorly balanced and poorly radiated, a rim will generate parasitic movements on the motorcycle. Our tools and our experience allow us to immediately detect and correct the "runout" and "skipping" present on a rim, and therefore deliver an irreproachable product. On a modern rim, the racking takes about an hour, but it can increase in some cases !", specifies the technician.

This quality of achievement, recognized everywhere, already seems to be bearing fruit since "every day, a new client is added to our file which already has 700 !", rejoice Franck-Christofer Javos and his wife Maïte:"we even have contacts with countries like Belgium and Switzerland".

In addition, offering laser engraving (around € 20 per rim) and preparing suspensions, Seurat Power 3 is also considering extending its services to motorcycle consumables and pilot equipment. And soon the competition ?

"We already have a partnership with a French supermotard team and we are present on the ISDE", explains Maïte,"but we don’t have the will to follow and manage pilots like my grandfather did. Even if of course, this passion for motorcycles in general and competition in particular runs through our veins !"

Anyway, the family flame does not seem ready to be extinguished and the rapid development of the activities of the young company demonstrates the merits of the approach: Seurat Power 3 intends to open soon a website which will resume all its references (nearly 5,000), points of sale and a space dedicated to professionals.
