Chopper and Cruiser 2015: deep relaxation on two wheels

The relatively small number of new choppers and cruisers promises to enrich this deliberately relaxed motorcycle segment. What to expect in 2015.

Upright seating position, wide or high handlebars, forward footrests – this is how you can glide relaxedly over the streets at least since the cinema hit "Easy Rider". Choppers and cruisers embody motorcycling with a lower heart rate. Suppliers from the USA, Europe and Japan have interesting innovations in their range for 2015 – above all the resurrected classic Indian brand with its new Scout entry-level model.

New old brand: Indian

indian has been building motorcycles with major interruptions since 1901. The brand name, which was revived in 2011, is almost as mythical as its big rival Harley-Davidson. The Scout, which was first built in 1920, will be launched in 2015 with a brand new 1.1-liter V2 – water-cooled and with 72 kW/100 hp and 98 Nm of torque. for 12.990 euros, the Scout from the traditional Indian brand should open up new groups of buyers, which also contributes to 100 kg less weight compared to the sister models and a seat height of only 635 mm. Not only in terms of price, the Scout for Indian is a decisive asset compared to the much more expensive Chief Classic, Chief Vintage, Chieftain and Roadmaster models: the latter costs 27.990 euros.

Harley-Davidson news

In addition to its many touring innovations for 2015, Platzhirsch Harley Davidson the Dyna Low Rider FXDL entered the race for choppers and cruisers. In 1977 she was part of the "American Legend" program for the first time, now she is back in the Harley portfolio. With its mid-mount footpegs, it fills the gap between the Electra Glide and the Sportster, just like the ancestors of the Harley-Davidson Dyna line have done since the early ’70s. A lot of chrome requires increased cleaning pleasure – up to the classic spoked wheels. A seat height of only 680 mm also opens up the world of cruisers for shorter pilots with 57 kW/76 hp of power from the 1.7 liter V-Twin. Cost point: 15.995 euros.

Vulcan S by Kawasaki

The middle class of cruisers enriched Kawasaki 2015 with his new Vulcan S. The Japanese use the proven and popular two-cylinder engine with 649 ccm from the diverse ER series. After the naked bike, faired sports version and raised all-rounder, the Vulcan S is now a low cruiser with a seat height of only 705 mm in the poisonous green showrooms. For the class-typical, leisurely gliding, Kawasaki has strengthened the engine in the middle of the speed range and from below. Adjustable clutch and brake levers and three-way adjustable footrests are just as unusual for the class as they are commendable. The new Japanese flat iron is available in purple, black and white from 7.295 euros available.

Since 1971 it has also become an Italo icon Moto Guzzi dedicated to the leisurely pace on two wheels. The Eldorado, newly presented for 2015, is also dedicated to the tradition of the California models built since then. A wide, high handlebar and footrests mounted relatively far forward characterize the cruiser as well as the wide seat and classic design. It is powered by a 1.4-liter V2 with 71 kW/96 hp, which, as is typical for Moto Guzzi, holds its cooling fins in the wind at right angles to the direction of travel. ABS and traction control ensure safety ex works, the price has not yet been determined.

Victory Gunner

Atypical for the brand victory will be the new Gunner in 2015: Relatively narrow tires ensure agility, the design is almost spartan compared to the partly expansive sister models, the price at 12.990 euros comparatively moderate. Even when stationary, the dragster-style handlebars look as if they could pull the pilot’s arms out at full speed. No wonder, because: 65 kW / 88 hp does the V2, but above all, he draws the imposing thrust of 140 nm torque of powerful 1.731 CCM displacement.
