The power Vespa

Vespas are usually considered chic and cute. You should forget that with this strong and exclusive power scooter. Who sows the wind will reap storm! The compressor Vespa GTS 300 in an individual test.

The black-red warning color clearly stands for Porco Nero-Tuning ("Black Pig") of the scooter & MotorradBox in Stuttgart. The did two years ago Vespa GTS 300 with classic motor tuning legs. The latest wasp stings even more violently, and thanks to a built-in compressor it really goes wild like a pig. Drivers at traffic lights are not opponents. But just annoying with their rumbling. The high-tech scooter accelerates unspectacularly and makes long arms. Are the cars reversing? Its power has been doubled, from 17 to around 34 hp on the rear wheel. From zero to 100 in six seconds, it even outpaced the BMW C 650 and Yamaha TMax 530.

The variator must never slip

For six months, the technicians and inventors Enzo, Malte and Pavel did a lot of pioneering work in adapting the compressor on the left side of the engine. He has a separate oil cooler under the floor pan, his intercooler with pressure compensator is hidden in the former helmet compartment. Boost becomes Bums. The black creature drives cheekily and boldly, much better and faster than the series. Even uphill, up the steep slopes of the Swabian Alb, the supercharged Vespa GTS 300 soars confidently. It is absolutely suitable as an overland vehicle. And as a real companion, with a deeply hidden secret. That is funny understatement.

But early, at a real 128 km / h, the limiter intervenes with a jerky jerk: The motor, which has a compression ratio of only 9.5 to one, then turns “only” 9,400 rpm, the compressor 240,000 times per minute – the absolute limit for that small component. And the variator must never slip, then over-revving is inevitable. Without a compressor, the scooter works & Motorbike Box 300 up to 10,800 revs, is currently working on rev counters and displacement kits for the 278 cubic cylinder.

Installed everything that is fine and expensive

You can hear the compressor whirring while playing with acceleration. The larger throttle valve is adapted to forced ventilation, with a diameter of 38 instead of 32 millimeters. The single is definitely thirsty. Handy and bustling with a big city feeling, every Vespa is easy to drive. This also turns on the palm of the hand (turning circle less than four meters) and jacks itself up on the main stand almost by itself. Above all, it is noticeably more stable thanks to the front shock absorber from HH-Racetech with a reservoir. It offers a lot of reserves and works bravely through asphalt faults. Michelin 2CT Power Pure SC stick to inspire confidence. A milled Brembo four-piston brake caliper at the front securely catches the black coat at any time. This is on the one hand easier (exhaust, lithium-ion battery), on the other hand, thanks to its special parts, a total of three kilograms heavier than before, a moderate 161 kilograms. Everything that is fine and expensive is built into the compressor Vespa GTS 300. Does it all make sense? No idea. But it is great fun. Simply impressive.
