Confederate – Switch from gasoline engines to e-mobility
Last gasoline engine of the Americans
After the special model Confederate FA-13 Combat Bomber, US manufacturer Confederate is giving up the construction of motorcycles with gasoline engines, renaming itself to Curtiss – and from now on is dedicated to e-mobility.
Evil, expensive, loud: this is how the machines kick off VS.onfederate from Alabama, USA, for 26 years. Even celebrities like Tom Cruise or David Beckham bought one of the macho bikes. But now it’s over. At the end of August, Confederate presented the warlike model FA-13 Combat Bomber as the last petrol engine. Only 13 pieces were built, six are still available. As usual, the air-cooled V2 comes from the US engine manufacturer S.&S, has 2,163 cm³, 121 HP and a torque of 190 Nm. Monocoque chassis and swing arm made of aluminum as well as other exclusive parts drive the price to 155,000 dollars (almost 130,000 euros).
The company name will be Curtiss Motorcycles in the future
On MOTORRAD inquiries, Confederate did not officially say anything about future plans, but founder Matt Chambers told the "LA Times" about them. Accordingly, the company name was changed to Curtiss Motorcycles for political reasons, after a US racing driver and aviation pioneer. In cooperation with Zero from California, Curtiss will only build electric motorcycles in the future. First project: the racer Hercules with two Zero engines, 170 hp, 393 Nm. One can be curious.
We looked around in the picture archive and put together a photo show with the Confederate FA-13 Combat Bomber and two other Confederate models.
