Grolandais directors Benoît Delepine and Gustave Kervern bring the Munch Mammuth back to life through a film coming out on Wednesday: Gerard Depardieu, mammoth of French cinema, sets off on the handlebars of the legendary German to recover his retirement points !

The new film by Benoît Delepine and Gustave Kervern, to whom we owe in particular Aaltra in 2004 (read), Avida in 2006 and Louise Michel in 2008, returns, as in Aaltra, on one of the passions of the Charento-Grolandais Benoît Delepine alias Michael Kael: the motorcycle !

In Mammuth, which comes out Wednesday April 21 in theaters, Gerard Depardieu embodies a retired motorcyclist with a tender heart who travels the roads of France in search of former employers (fairground, bar owners) who must issue him the necessary work certificates for the obtaining his pension…

Pushed by his wife (Yolande Moreau), he leaves his home riding his Munch Mammuth, a mythical motorcycle handcrafted in the 70s in Germany and equipped with an ultra powerful NSU car engine for the time, and which was again produced in small series in 2000…

Serge Nuques in missile

Haunted by the death of his childhood sweetheart (Isabelle Adjani), he notably meets a hitchhiker (Anna Mouglalis), a curious beach attendant (Benoît Poelvoorde) or a wine grower (Sine), not to mention the sinister Serge Nuques: "I play two or three offbeat scenes, well in the spirit of the film, and I do the missile by overtaking Depardieu at 250 89 km / h on the handlebars of the new R1", explains the Grolandais Knight to Site !

During the Golden Bear ceremony in Berlin, Gerard Depardieu explained that he appreciated this role in which it was enough for him to be "himself"."I am a wanderer, I have no ambition, I am a total spectator of life, like my character", he assured, adding that it had been"a great joy to remake cinema as in the days of the "Valseuses" (Bertrand Blier’s film which launched it in 1974, editor’s note), I had real freedom, it’s an art film".

A film dedicated to Guillaume Depardieu because he is absolutely free, like him…

At 61 years old, Gerard Depardieu believes today that the hero at the limit of the marginality that he embodies in the film looks like his own father: "my father lived like this, he could neither read nor write, he was exploited by everyone"…

Mammuth is dedicated to his son Guillaume, who died in October 2008 at the age of 37, from severe pneumonia after contracting an illness in hospital after a motorcycle accident. "Because it’s an absolutely free movie, like him", summarizes Benoît Delepine…

Presented yesterday in Paris after many provincial towns, the film received an excellent reception with many applause, especially in Angoulême and Bayonne.
