Chilean President Sebastian Pinera wants the Dakar rally to be renamed as a "Chile-Argentina" rally … which does not seem unfounded as the two South American countries will host the event for the third consecutive year in 2011 !

Chilean President Sebastian Pinera wants the Dakar rally to be renamed as a "Chile-Argentina" rally … which does not seem unfounded as the two South American countries will host the event for the third consecutive year in 2011 !

"We hope that one day (the rally) will be called Chile-Argentina," Pinera said after a meeting with representatives of the Dakar 2011 at the presidential palace in La Moneda. "We are very happy to welcome to La Moneda the organizers of the rally that we know and which has become famous under the name Paris-Dakar, but which today, for the third time, will be organized in our country and in Argentina ", he added.

After 29 editions in Africa from 1979 to 2007, the rally was canceled in 2008 for "security reasons". The next edition will take place from January 1 to 16, 2011 in Chile and Argentina.
