The Spanish brand knows how to make its ardor speak in GP 125. But if the category dangles a number of young people with glory and speed, everyone knows that reasoning often takes precedence over dreams. With 19 world championship titles, Derbi is rocking his chest in the category and will be very proud of this GPR 125. New generation, it abandons the 2-stroke engine for the 4-stroke monopoly.
An engine that combines a lot of advantages: reduced consumption, much less pollution, a less strident sound for the neighbors. The other side of the coin is the maximum 15 horses. Not enough to forget the bloodstains and the ardor of the cylinder with holes. However, the competition has also adopted this type of engine. Everyone now plays on equal terms. What accelerate reasonably, have fun, and hang the 120 km / h, even a small 130 with a little help and optimism.
Tight design, aggressive fork crown with central air intake, pot under the saddle, rear LED light, tapered white indicators, all-digital dashboard – the GPR is a real sporty, flattering and seductive. Its front end would even catch cold sweats for Japanese women of the same rank. When the CBR 125 and YZF-R 125 are satisfied with a classic fork, the Spanish face the road with a 40 mm inverted model. It is almost the same diameter as on the first generation of R1. The brakes also don’t pretend. With a 300 mm disc clamped by a radial caliper, the pilot will have no trouble stopping the momentum of the machine’s 120 kilos (3 less than the 2-stroke GPR).
Sporty to the end, it has a perimeter aluminum frame and an asymmetrical swing arm in the same metal. The rear shock absorber is directly anchored to the swingarm, without links; less progressiveness but a more sporty feeling of the road. Here is a machine which promises to be rigid well as it should. Special mention for the dashboard which can display: the speed per bar graph, the speed, a total and partial trip, a clock, a stopwatch, a shiflight and the maximum speed; all that’s missing is a fuel gauge.
Racy, well-equipped, pleasant, the Derbi GPR 125 puts forward good arguments to gain a place of choice among the sporty 125s.
