Driving report Confederate Hellcat X132

Extreme motorcycle from Confederate

If you wake up with a headache and glassy eyes, feel intoxicated and are afraid that you have done illegal things the day before, you can calm down in this case: You probably just drove the new Hellcat.

The name says it all: hellish thundering instead of heavenly harp sounds, blazing V2 fire instead of lukewarm breeze – the Hellcat undoubtedly has nothing to do with cuddly cats. Their territory are martially styled, brutally gripping V2 men’s motorcycles, which scare off wimps at the sight, where less well-off would-be machos are sorted out when they go to the checkout.

Kjust under 50,000 US dollars, i.e. around 38,000 euros, should be able to casually throw on the counter if you want to join the illustrious circle of Confederate owners like Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt with the purchase. What does the customer get for the coal – a boring custom cruiser? Definitely not. Rather a kind of extravagant, massive reinterpretation of the Cafe Racer of English tradition, but with a typically American, pounding V2. This traditionally comes from the engine forge S&S, but the new one clearly stands out from the ranks of old twins based on Harley models. The youngest V2, which now has a cylinder angle of 56.25 degrees and shows its three underlying camshafts (two exhaust, one common intake camshaft) behind a Plexiglas cover, acts as a load-bearing element in the new chassis. The 76 millimeter thick central tube of the steel frame also has a part-time job as a tank for the 4.25 liter oil supply for the dry sump lubrication. Although the V2 has to get along without balancer shafts and is rigidly screwed into the frame, it does give off a full V2 tremor, but does not vibrate annoyingly in any speed range. Cultivated directly – for air-cooled Ami-V2 conditions. After all, the 132 cubic inch motor (2163 cm³ exactly) with a square bore / stroke ratio (111.8 x 111.8 mm) meets the strict noise regulations despite air cooling. It should be five decibels quieter than the old 117 cubic inch V2. Really quiet is still different, but anyone who shovels 135 hp on the chain can make this loudly known. The torque is even more remarkable than the peak performance: the S&S-Motor currently has the best value among the series twins and makes even a Ducati Diavel look weak with 128 Nm.

Edge

Fork on wheels: The mighty 50 mm Marzocchi part characterizes the front view of the slim X132.

Even tight turns can usually be taken without the help of a slipping clutch, but the speed should not fall below 1800 rpm and the load should be kept under tension. Otherwise significant load change reactions screw up the line very quickly. Switching processes should also be completed in good time, they also require emphasis and are accompanied by a hearty clong. Honest, straightforward, unadulterated. The Hellcat steers in precisely, even if not overhanded, but then no longer allows for discussion about the chosen line. The 190 Pirelli sports tire brings the full thump of the rustic two-valve car to the road cleanly when accelerating out, the American pulls the straight to the next bend under her with vigorous hammering, the Beringer four-piston brake effectively and easily halted the ride in hell. The mighty, fully adjustable 50 mm fork from Marzocchi swallows any bumps quite well, but the RaceTech rear shock offers only modest travel. The “Cafe Cruiser” is not made for bad roads or long stages, everyone should be aware of that. Also the 62 fixed people who have already ordered their Hellcat. But the official roar should be guaranteed to them.
