Big, grown-up scramblers
For the 2018 model year, the Ducati Scrambler 1100 rolls off the production line fresh. Rolf Henniges reports on the first ride with the air-cooled L-Twin of the large Scrambler. And the “big” doesn’t just stand for 300 cm³ more.
How happy were we all! With the super successful, mega-selling bikes Scrambler 400 and Scrambler 800 we D.ucati put down two lively and cool motorcycles that really shook up and stimulated the market. Both models are almost as handy as a 125cc and their retro look fits in with the times. With the Scrambler 1100, Ducati is now following its big sister.
Ducatisti, who have longed for a Bologna counterpart to the BMW R nineT, can now check their savings account: the standard version costs around 13,000 euros, special and sport just under 15,000. There’s 1079 cm³, 86 PS at 7,500 rpm and 88.4 Nm maximum torque at 4,750. ABS, even a cornering ABS, is of course on board and, in contrast to the four-stage traction control, cannot be switched off, and all three large scrambler variants offer three driving modes.

The Ducati Scrambler 1100 is clearly more adult! Your wheelbase is longer, the handlebars wider, the tank more voluminous, the saddle higher, the sound more robust and the torque richer. OK then! In other words: the 1100 looks much more masculine. How is that going? Completely different from her little sisters.
The chassis is very tightly tuned, the brakes grip more courageously and the electronics are state-of-the-art. A cornering ABS takes the driver away from fear of brakes in an inclined position. Three driving modes entice you to play around and influence the power delivery. They work perfectly. And last but not least, overtaking is child’s play, 86 HP is enough.
Ducati has also succeeded in making an all-day bike really timeless. Anyone reading this now might think: Hey, another naked bike from Ducati? That could have a cannibal effect on the equally successful monster. Or push the small models into the background. No fear! There are no dangers. Why? You can read that in MOTORRAD issue 8/2018, which will be on the kiosk from March 29th.

3 versions of the Ducati Scrambler 1100
The standard version of the large scrambler comes on the market in bright yellow and black. The Ducati Scrambler 1100 Special rolls on black spoked wheels, with a chrome exhaust, aluminum fenders, brushed swing arms, golden fork tubes as well as a slightly lower handlebar and brown seat. The color “Custom Gray” is exclusively reserved for her.
The Ducati Scrambler 1100 Sport is not satisfied with Kabaya goods and is instead equipped with an adjustable Ohlins suspension fork and adjustable Ohlins shock absorber. Her black dress has yellow decorative stitching on the side of the tank, while two wider yellow stripes set accents above the tank opening and down to the seat.
On all three Ducati Scrambler 1100s, there is a USB port under the seat, the side tank covers are interchangeable, and LED headlights and LCD instruments are on board.
