Driving report Kawasaki VN 1700 Classic
Japan cruiser in a new edition
With the VN 900, Kawasaki presents the cruiser bestseller in 2008. With the VN 2000 the V2 chopper with the largest displacement. The VN 1700 is intended to close the gap between baby cruisers and big twins.
Honestly, you would have expected a lot from Kawasaki. Jet skis with turbo two-stroke engines, the secondary utilization of the MotoGP engine in a city scooter. The main thing is speed and power. As you know from Frankenstein’s daughters, the Z models from the seventies, to the current 193 hp ZZR 1400 rocket. And now that: the best-selling cruiser and the largest V2 chopper come from Kawasaki. Times change. And, krrrk, the VN 1700 Classic also reminds you that it is one of those other Kawas with running boards paddling across the asphalt. One of the decelerated. Of course, the new one initially fulfills the role that its predecessor, the VN 1600, has played up to now: the price and technical bridge between the VN 900 (7900 euros, 50 hp) and the VN 2000 (14,000 euros, 94 hp). After all: At 12,675 euros, the VN 1700 remains at the price level of the 1600 series, with 75 hp it also takes on its top performance, but thanks to the increased displacement, it increases the torque from 125 to 135 Nm.
